Common Equity Housing Limited (CEHL) is a Victorian Registered Housing Association and Public Benevolent Institution (Charity) that develops and manages affordable housing throughout Victoria.
With a portfolio of more than 2000 properties, predominantly managed by 90+ housing co-operatives, CEHL is Australia's largest rental housing co-operative provider and leading advocate for the local and national co-operative housing sector. YOUR ROLE
As a CEHL Board Director, you will contribute productively and respectfully to the work of the Board, including the organisation's strategic direction, good governance, risk management and the management of the company's performance and compliance obligations.
As an independent, technical director, you will ideally have senior executive experience in finance, accounting and risk (ideally, with exposure to the property sector) and you will make a significant contribution to the ongoing growth and sustainability of the organisation.
ABOUT THE CEHL BOARD
•The Board is made up of eleven Directors:
oFive (5) Directors elected by CEHL Member Co-Ops
oFive (5) Independent Directors appointed for their specific skills
oThe Managing Director
•CEHL Board Meetings are held during business hours. There are approximately eight meetings per year, as well as a Board Strategic Planning Day. Board meetings and Strategy Day are held in person, face-to-face, at the CEHL office in Carlton.
•Directors are also required to sit on one CEHL Board Committee. Board Committees meet 6 – 8 times per year; meetings are generally after hours and online.
•Preparatory reading for each Board and Committee is generally 2 – 3 hours.
•From time to time, Directors are asked to participate in community events with member co-ops.
•Directors serve a two-year term and may be reappointed.
ABOUT YOU
We're seeking a seasoned governance professional with a strong commercial background. You will have:
•Alignment with CEHL's strategic purpose.
•Significant senior executive experience in a commercial operating environment.
•CPA or Chartered Accountant qualification essential
•A GAICD qualification is essential.
•Experience as a Chair of a Board would be highly desirable
•Experienced public company Director preferred
