COMPANY: I'm recruiting for a Geotechnical Advisor or Senior Advisor to join one of the UK's most successful building & civils main contractors with an in-house geotechnical team. Role
Our client is open to consider candidates from consultancy side or already with previous main contractor employment; they are not expecting candidates to be the complete article and are open to transferable skills with training and support provided if required.
As part of a growing in-house geotechnical team for this main contractor you will provide support on geotechnical problems and earthworks, working on a range of projects in both the buildings and civil engineering sectors. You will liaise with external design consultants and provide advice to site teams and, when applicable, provide value engineering solutions.
Duties
As Geotechnical Advisor your duties will include:
* Providing technical support to project teams regarding general geotechnical requirements on live projects. This includes assistance in earthworks procurement and review of earthworks specifications, earthworks strategies and plans, on-site testing, site investigations (procurement and observations), validation of earthwork strategies, provision of Geotechnical Risk Registers and required Geotechnical Assessments, assisting the design team, liaison with external geotechnical engineers, clients and subcontractors, and resolution of matters arising during or post completion of construction works.
* This is not a hands-on designer role; it is a design management / project management / coordination & advisory role. However, transfer of knowledge from design engineers will be considered.
Requirements
* Knowledge of Building and/or Civil Engineering sector.
* Previous employment as a Geotechnical Engineer, Design Engineer, Civil Engineer, Geo-Environmental Consultant, Geotechnical Advisor, Design Manager or similar.
* Strong background in Foundation Design/Geotechnics.
* Previous main contractor employment preferred but not essential; candidates from design engineering consultancy or sub-contractor backgrounds will also be considered.
* Relevant industry qualification (Degree / HND / HNC etc).
* Previous experience on Earthworks or slope stability projects would be ideal.
* Some experience in Earthworks supervision would be highly advantageous.
Location
The role will be a mix of remote working and site visits. Sites can be nationwide, so travel flexibility is required. It is a visiting role splitting time across several projects concurrently. While the company is based centrally, Midlands-based candidates are preferred; however, flexible remote working allows consideration of candidates based in other locations nationwide as long as they can travel to visits.
