UX Engineer ($120,000-$130,000)

Location: Must be Perth based (Hybrid)

Type: Permanent

Overview An established organisation is seeking a UX Engineer to deliver high-quality, user-focused frontend interfaces across multiple digital initiatives.

Sitting at the intersection of design and engineering, this role ensures that user interfaces are implemented accurately, consistently, and in alignment with an established design system. The UX Engineer works closely with designers and delivery teams to translate visual and interaction design into scalable, accessible, and high-performing frontend solutions.

The role suits someone with strong frontend engineering skills, a sharp eye for detail, and a collaborative mindset who enjoys championing quality, accessibility, and consistency across products.

Key Responsibilities Design System & Component Development

Build, maintain, and extend reusable UI components within a shared design system.
Ensure consistency in visual design, interaction patterns, and accessibility across multiple products.
Identify opportunities to improve or evolve the design system based on real-world implementation needs.
Advocate for best practices in UI consistency, usability, and inclusive design.

Frontend Development & Delivery

Develop high-quality frontend interfaces using modern technologies (e.g. React,, Tailwind CSS, component libraries).
Translate design files and workflows into pixel-accurate, responsive, and accessible code.
Ensure frontend implementations meet architectural, performance, and scalability expectations.
Collaborate with delivery teams to integrate UI components into broader systems.

Quality, Accessibility & Standards

Champion frontend quality through semantic HTML, maintainable CSS, and well-structured component logic.
Ensure UI components meet accessibility standards (e.g. WCAG 2.1 AA), including keyboard navigation, focus management, ARIA usage, and screen-reader support.
Participate in code reviews, testing, and defect resolution to maintain quality and stability.

Collaboration & Documentation

Work across multiple teams to provide frontend and UI engineering expertise.
Document components, usage guidelines, and frontend best practices.
Contribute to estimation, technical planning, and sprint activities to support smooth delivery.

Required Skills & Experience

Strong experience with modern frontend frameworks and libraries (e.g. React, Angular, Vue).
Excellent knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript/TypeScript, and responsive design principles.
Proven ability to implement designs with high fidelity and attention to detail.
Experience working with or contributing to a design system or component library.
Strong understanding of accessibility standards and inclusive design practices.
Solid grasp of frontend performance optimisation and cross-browser compatibility.
Experience collaborating closely with designers, engineers, architects, and product teams.
Comfortable working in agile or iterative delivery environments.

Desirable Experience

Exposure to complex enterprise or large-scale digital environments.
Familiarity with tools such as Storybook, design tokens, or CSS-in-JS solutions.
Experience with automated UI testing (e.g. Cypress, Playwright, Jest, React Testing Library).
Involvement in CI/CD pipelines for frontend assets.
Strong understanding of UX principles and the ability to provide constructive feedback on design feasibility.
