The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking a

Workforce Engagement Officer, to provide a critical role within Western Plains Correctional Centre.

About the Business Unit

Western Plains Correctional Centre is a modern, maximum-security prison focussed on rehabilitation, housing up to 1248 people in custody. Western Plains features multi-purpose infrastructure which is adaptable to the evolving needs of Corrections Victoria and the people in our care. Modern amenities include medical wards, a cultural centre, and vocational training facilities.

Western Plains provides a holistic, multidisciplinary approach to individualised care which motivates, encourages and promotes reintegration into the community. Western Plains has advanced technology which improves security, streamlines operations and enhances connections for the people in our care.

Western Plains operates with three primary service teams: Workforce and Prison Services, Communities, and Safety and Operational Service which collaboratively deliver comprehensive services for people in our care, safety management, and corporate services. Through its innovative design and service model, Western Plains aims to create a thriving environment conducive to safety and positive behavioural change.

About the Role

This role is part of the Workforce and Prison Services (WPS) team, a team dedicated to delivering essential corporate and ancillary services support to prison operational teams and prisoners. Leveraging the technical ability and professional expertise of trained subject matter experts, the team supports the smooth functioning of prison operations while prioritising prisoner rehabilitation and safety.

The Workforce Engagement Officer is responsible for providing knowledge, innovative thinking, and creative solutions that support Western Plains Correctional Centre's key workforce and prison services function. The position provides expertise relating to identifying workforce capacity and capability with the aim of supporting the prison to meet its objectives now and into the future.

The position will support work that ensures the right employment types are recruited to, that the workforce has the appropriate skills and capabilities necessary for completing the work required and that sufficient onboarding and workforce management processes are in place for the effective and efficient operation of the facility. This will be achieved through collaboration with management, area specialists and operational staff as well as the use of data solutions.

You may be required to work flexible hours including nights, weekends and public holidays and attend to urgent work as required. Appropriate remuneration will be applied for the above in accordance with the Victorian Public Service Enterprise Agreement 2024.

Some of your duties will include:

* Support the creation, communication and ongoing maintenance of the employee engagement strategy to continually drive positive employee experiences.
* Build and foster relationships across business units to ensure employees are engaged and informed no matter where they work in the prison.
* Provide support and advice to managers in relation to organisational culture, values and other workforce engagement related activities.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

* Relevant experience in a strategic human resources/staff engagement role would be desirable
* Demonstrated experience in providing corporate support services in government or large private sector organisations would be desirable.
* Experience working with the full range of Microsoft Windows and MS Office application suite software would be highly desirable.

Qualifications

* A qualification in human resource management would be desirable.
