Legal Services operates as an independent professional legal practice within the department and is comprised of the General Counsel, Directors, lawyers and support staff.
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service and work collaboratively with our internal stakeholders to achieve the department's strategic objectives.ResponsibilitiesProvide timely, high quality legal advice to the portfolio Minister, Director-General, Coordinator-General, Senior Executives and other officers in the Department on: the structuring and delivery of infrastructure, major projects and other economic developmentthe drafting and negotiation of term sheets and bespoke funding agreementsinvestment attraction and competitive bid processesother legal issues affecting the department which could include commercial, contract, construction, property and administrative lawcompulsory acquisition processesthe State Development and Public Works Organisation Act 1971Draft and review commercial agreements which could include leases, licences, easements, development agreements and funding agreements.Contribute to the strengthening of capabilities of managers and staff in legal issuesMentor junior lawyersEngage and manage the provision of legal advice outsourced to external legal firms including Crown Law.Maintaining effective relationships with a range of clients and stakeholders.Assisting General Counsel and the Directors to identify and make recommendations to senior management on trends, risks and emerging legal issues affecting the Department.Applications will remain current for 12 months.Job Ad Reference: QLD/661270/25Closing Date: Monday, 13 October 2025
