About the business
This is a unique opportunity within IT to lead the evolution of payments systems and work closely with RBA's Payments Settlements (PS) department, which owns and operates RITS, Australia's real-time gross settlement system. This system moves around $290 billion between financial institutions each day and ultimately settles all non-cash payments in Australia. The RBA's role in maintaining safe, secure and reliable settlement systems is integral to the smooth functioning of the Australian economy.
About the role
Exciting opportunity to set the future architecture direction for payments. This new role within the IT Strategy and Enterprise Architecture team presents a unique opportunity to shape the future of technology for the Payments domain. In addition to providing architectural services, you'll provide strategic technical leadership and expert guidance to senior business stakeholders, working in close partnership with PS Domain and Solution Architects. Your responsibilities will include leading the development of domain strategies and roadmaps, advising on the impact of evolving technologies across the Bank's landscape, and representing the Payments domain on the Architecture Review Board.
Key responsibilities
Lead the development of Payments technology roadmaps and strategies to support business objectives
Oversee the design and implementation of complex systems ensuring they are highly reliable, fit for purpose, secure and aligned to Payments target architecture
Lead the technology health-check process for Payments technology to inform strategy and investment cycles
Advocate for technology decisions in a way that reinforces objectives for highly available, fit for purpose, and secure RITS ecosystem
Provide architectural governance and direction for key Payments architecture decisions, including assisting with identification and resolution of design-related issues that could impact business operations
Ensure that the technical architecture complies with industry best practice, standards and regulations, and is secure against threats
Identify opportunities to drive simplification, integration, innovation, common platforms, then develop business justification and pragmatic roadmaps for implementation
Provide senior technical leadership to the IT department, including expertise in infrastructure, data, applications, security technologies and their deployment
Help set technology standards, as well as contribute to continuous improvement in the architecture practice
Qualifications and experience
Proven experience in roadmap and strategy development, as well as supporting the development of business cases, in complex, regulated environments
Proven experience in architecting highly reliable systems with zero downtime
Deep domain knowledge in payments, financial messaging, or settlement processes
Demonstrated skills as a trusted advisor able to communicate, influence and persuade peers and senior business stakeholders, clearly articulate complex topics and provide strategic guidance on making architecture-based decisions. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills
Understanding of the strategic importance of new and emerging technologies and their practical application
Proven track record in contributing to application modernisation and renewal programmes within the financial services sector, particularly in the payments domain
Well-versed in modern enterprise infrastructure, deployment, cloud and integration techniques
Strategic mindset with the ability to balance long-term vision, commercial awareness and practical delivery constraints
Experience working with integration partners / vendors in large programmes of work
Qualifications relevant to the Bank or IT industry, including TOGAF, and technical / business domain certifications
