About This Role:
* An exciting opportunity exists for an Engineer, Control Systems (Ahafo South) to support and ensure the availability and effectiveness of fixed plant Industrial Control Systems (ICS) by providing Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) technical support, performance monitoring, change risk management, and collaboration with operations, maintenance, vendors, and global communities of practice.
In This Role You Will:
* Demonstrate an overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility, and sustainable development and technical regulatory compliance.
* Comply with Newmont's Fatality Risk Management program, Electrical Safety Standards, and all directives given by a Newmont-appointed Site Electrical Authority.
* Support the site Control Systems Team Lead to maintain and improve the availability and performance of all fixed plant control systems at a given site.
* Support the site Control Systems Team Lead to monitor, report and improve the key ICS performance metrics (alarm and controller reporting, system availability, etc.).
* Participate in operations and maintenance pre-start and handover meetings, remaining informed of Process Plant and Underground priorities, issues and initiatives.
* Implement minor temporary and permanent change requests to ICS software / applications.
* Execute and / or support projects and maintenance activities impacting on site industrial control systems including both field and office based tasks.
* Diagnose and resolve operations and maintenance issues related to the ICS including network, infrastructure, hardware, software and telemetry related faults.
* Support the OT Infrastructure and manage cyber security risks associated with PLC, DCS firmware and hardware, software, including the PI Historian suite.
* Collaborate in the global fixed plant control systems community.
Your Training, Skills and Experience Checklist:
Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):
* Tertiary degree in Control Systems Engineering or a related engineering discipline, or relevant trade qualification in a related industry with demonstrated experience.
Additional Knowledge:
* Knowledge of industrial ethernet networks.
* Understanding of ICS communication protocols (Modbus TCP/IP, OPC, Profibus).
* Knowledge of IT/OT fundamentals, including:
* Virtual server installations
* Database management
* Cybersecurity
* Knowledge of the AVEVA PI application suite.
* Awareness of industry best practices for control systems.
Experience:
* A minimum of 3 - 5 years' extensive experience managing and supporting fixed plant control systems.
* Significant hands-on experience with:
* Yokogawa Centum VP DCS
* Rockwell PLCs (ControlLogix / CompactLogix)
* Schneider Modicon PLCs
* Citect SCADA HMI
* Experience mentoring technical resources.
* Experience interacting with stakeholders at various organizational levels.
* Exerience working collaboratively within broader control systems teams.
Technical Skills:
* Proficient in DCS, PLC, and SCADA systems.
* Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
* Advanced computer literacy.
* High attention to detail.
* Effective communication and influencing skills.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
