POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Cable Jointer is responsible for the safe and efficient installation, jointing, termination, testing, and repair of underground high and low voltage (HV/LV) electrical cables for infrastructure and civil projects. The role includes independent field work, civil support, and maintaining a high standard of quality, safety, and compliance.
This is a key role in delivering energy infrastructure works to client and network specifications. The position may also involve mentoring apprentices or less experienced crew members.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Cable Jointing & Installation
* Perform live and dead LV and HV jointing and terminations
* Install, connect, test and commission underground power cables
* Complete service and mains jointing as per client/network specifications
* Maintain compliance with DNSP/network standards (AusNet, Jemena, United Energy etc.)
* Interpret drawings and as-builts to ensure accurate, standard-compliant works
* Assist in cable hauling operations including sanding and slabbing
Safety, Compliance & Quality
* Complete prestarts, permits, JHAs, cable plans and safety paperwork
* Isolate services and test dead as required by network rules and SWMS
* Maintain accurate cable records, test results, phasing sheets and redlines
* Report hazards, incidents or near misses and participate in site audits
* Safeguard the integrity of existing underground services – no hits or damages
Civil & Site Works
* Assist with trenching, backfilling, joint bay preparation and reinstatement
* Install pits, conduits, risers, bollards and associated electrical infrastructure
* Direct plant operators safely around live services and critical underground assets
* Interpret drawings and as-builts to ensure accurate, standard-compliant works
Team & Leadership Support
* Mentor apprentices and less experienced jointers or labourers if or when required
* Liaise professionally with supervisors, clients and other trades
* Communicate clearly and proactively to ensure site runs efficiently
* Support a culture of pride, care, positivity and respect across the team

Work Quality
Joints and terminations completed with no rework or failures
Installations meet spec, depth, separation, and phasing accuracy
Safety Compliance
Adherence to PPE, SWMS, network rules and live cable procedures
Completion of all documentation (JHAs, cable plans, permits, test results)
Efficiency & Productivity
Meets expected timeframes for cable jointing and installation; proactively manages own tasks and supports site productivity without compromising safety or quality
Reliability
Consistent attendance and punctuality; minimal unplanned absences

Paperwork & Records
Accurate and timely submission of forms, photos, test sheets and as-builts

QUALIFICATIONS, LICENCES & SKILLS
* Valid Cable Jointer Licence
* White Card (Construction Induction)
* Current Driver's Licence (MR or HR highly desirable)
* Strong understanding of electrical infrastructure standards and underground safety protocols
