The E2E Network Architect – 5G Core works across agile business, IT, network and vendor teams to provide end‐to‐end alignment, strategic guidance, governance and risk management for major Optus network initiatives. The role represents Optus in government, industry and technical standards discussions while applying multi‐technology expertise, technical leadership and strategic thinking to design and manage robust network solutions. Its primary focus is leading end‐to‐end solution architecture for the Optus Mobile and Fixed core, reporting directly to the Director of Network Architecture.
What You'll Do
* Contribute to long‐term network strategy development aligned with organisational goals and growth plans.
* Assist in designing 5G Core (Fixed and Mobile) architecture blueprints aligned with Optus' long‐term strategy, technology roadmap and industry best practices.
* Support the development and enforcement of network policies, standards and procedures to ensure regulatory and industry compliance.
* Provide technical guidance and leadership to Domain Architects and Engineers.
* Ensure integration and interoperability across mobile, fixed and cloud architectures with high availability and performance.
* Present architectural plans, reports and proposals to stakeholders.
* Participate in security workshops, providing architectural input to shape network security strategy.
* Oversee the implementation of security protocols and measures by engineering and architecture teams to protect the network from cyber threats.
* Collaborate with vendors to assess new technologies, develop new features and enhance network capabilities.
* Ensure architectural frameworks, policies and design documentation remain accurate and compliant with international standards, security best practices and regulatory requirements.
* Participate in and lead initiatives within the Network Architecture Review Board, ensuring thorough review processes and follow‐up actions through to final approval.
What Makes You Perfect for the Role?
* Strong experience in telecommunications engineering, with deep knowledge of PSTN, carrier‐grade networking and telecom technologies.
* Extensive carrier‐level design experience, including regulatory requirements, market trends and technical specifications across fixed, mobile and data networks.
* Hands‐on experience with New Technology Introduction (NTI) in carrier workplace.
* Expert knowledge across 5G (NSA/SA), IMS, CNF, NFVi, Voice over NBN, VoLTE, VoWiFi, Fixed Telephony (TDM), Mobile 3G/LTE, SMSIP PBX, SBC, VMware, WebRTC & RCS.
* Lead convergence across VoLTE, VoNR, VoWiFi, Fixed Voice SIP and legacy interworking to PSTN/SS7.
* Understand Fixed Voice evolution: Softswitch migration, SIP trunking, number portability, emergency services compliance.
* Proficient in architecture, design, implementation and specifications for 5G & 4G Mobile Network Architecture and Design, VoLTE / VoWiFi / VoNR / IMS, RAN & 3GPP standards, Orchestration & CI/CD, Cloud architecture (virtualisation, containerisation, microservices, NFV, Kubernetes, Docker, IaaS/SaaS/PaaS), FMC design, LAN/WAN/VPN, SMS/MMS platforms, Intelligent Network (SCP/STP/SSP), NBN residential features, RCS, multimedia & video services, CCS7 and SIP protocols.
* Drive evolution from EPC (MME/SGW/PGW) to 5G SA including interworking (N26, EPS Fallback, VoLTE/VoNR continuity).
* Strategic planning, cross‐functional leadership and organisational alignment.
* Risk analysis, Voice/SMS Fraud remediation planning, and mitigation execution.
* Knowledge of regulatory requirements, privacy and fair‐competition practices.
