This is an opportunity for a pain medicine specialist to work with a dynamic multidisciplinary pain team in a world class medical facility and being able to contribute positively to improving the quality of life of people with pain.


Where you'll be working

Department of Pain Management in Prince of Wales Hospital, Randwick, Sydney.

The Department is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of medical and nursing specialists, allied health professionals and administrative support personnel who work collaboratively together in an environment of mutual respect.


What You'll Be Doing

The Pain Medicine Specialist will be involved in Acute pain management for inpatients as well as working in the Outpatients Department to manage patients with persistent non-cancer and cancer pain and patients with pain and opioid dependence. There will be a requirement to be able to perform interventional procedures for both acute and chronic pain management in the operating theatre. The successful applicant will also take a major role in pain education for junior staff and students. There will also be research and quality improvement activities to participate in.

All applications must include a demonstration of your ability to meet each of the selection criteria in order to progress through the recruitment process.

* Registration or eligible for registration with Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA). Candidate to provide AHPRA Registration Number on application.
* Fellowship of either the Faculty of Pain Medicine, College of Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FFPMANZCA) or Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine (FAFRM) or General Practitioners (FRACGP) or equivalent. Trainees who have completed all the training requirements for the Faculty of Pain Medicine (ANZCA) but have not yet received formal recognition may apply.
* Must have extensive experience in chronic non-cancer and cancer pain management including provision of interventional pain procedures.
* Must have extensive experience in acute pain management including ability to perform nerve blocks for traumatic injuries.
* Evidence of continuing medical education and participation in quality improvement activities consistent with the scope of practice requirements of pain management.
* Demonstrated commitment to teaching with experience in teaching both undergraduate and post graduate students and other staff of the hospital. A qualification in postgraduate medical education would be preferred.
* Demonstrate the skills and attitudes appropriate as a Senior Medical Practitioner including modelling a high standard of professional behaviour to junior medical staff and working effectively and harmoniously in a multidisciplinary team
* Demonstrated recent evidence of engagement in pain medicine research.
