About This Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for a Teaching-Focused (TF) Senior Lecturer to extend their teaching impact through academic leadership at the program or discipline level. In this role, you will foster excellence in teaching and learning, coordinate or lead the activities of academic and skilled staff, and demonstrate leadership that reflects UQ’s values of integrity, excellence, and collaboration. You will actively engage in internal and external partnerships that enhance the development of others and contribute to the advancement of innovative and evidence-based teaching practices, policies, and knowledge. As Specialty Supervisor, you will deliver high-quality clinical education within the Clinical Unit, supporting the integration of learning across all four years of the MD Program. You will collaborate closely with the Principal Specialty Supervisor and engage with clinicians across hospital and community care settings to strengthen the program’s educational outcomes. Highly visible in the clinical workplace, you will bring a strong academic profile within your specialty and a commitment to nurturing the next generation of medical professionals.

Key Responsibilities

- Teaching: Deliver high-quality teaching, supervision, assessment, and feedback across all years of the MD Program to support students’ clinical competence, professional identity, and overall learning experience, while serving as an effective role model and educational advisor.
- Work collaboratively with the Principal Specialty Supervisor, Academic Title Holders, and clinical colleagues to enhance educational practice, curriculum design, and assessment quality within the Clinical Unit, and engage in ongoing professional development to continuously improve teaching performance.
- Research: Maintain an active record of high-quality clinical research outputs consistent with disciplinary standards and demonstrate leadership in research contribution.
- Supervision and Researcher Development: Lead and support staff performance, conduct, and professional development through effective feedback, coaching, and management across the employee lifecycle, resolving conflicts as needed, while modelling and promoting the responsible conduct of research.

Organisational Relationships

This position reports to the Head, Greenslopes Clinical Unit with functional oversight from the Head, Mayne Academy of Critical Care.

About You

- Medical qualification and eligibility for registration as a medical practitioner in Australia, with a specialist qualification recognised by: The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons
- An established profile in clinical teaching and/or clinical research in the discipline area.
- Evidence of a substantial senior contribution to quality clinical teaching at undergraduate postgraduate and/or skilled entry level.
- Expert discipline knowledge and extensive experience in a general or specialist capacity, including evidence of dissemination and adoption of new and innovative clinical techniques.
- National record of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences with a developing international profile, in conjunction with evidence of contributing to successfully seeking, obtaining and managing external research funding.
- Active participation in the development and continuous innovation of programs, curricula and/or course material in the discipline area.
- Record of supervision of HDR students and/or trainees in speciality training programs.
- A growing record of meaningful internal service roles in conjunction with demonstrated leadership roles in external activities that foster links within the profession and the relevant specialty, including developing consultancies in speciality areas.
