Senior Litigation Lawyer / Senior Legal Officer (Federal Government Roles)
Allygroup is seeking experienced litigation lawyers to join high-performing legal teams within the Australian Public Service. These roles offer the opportunity to work on complex and high-profile matters, provide strategic legal advice to senior stakeholders, and contribute to decisions that impact Australians nationwide. These roles are available in Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Adelaide. A Baseline security clearance is preferred. Full-time work is preferred; however, part-time and versatile arrangements will be considered.
About the roles
We have two exciting opportunities for experienced litigation lawyers:
Senior Litigation Lawyer (EL2 equivalent) – Lead complex litigation matters, provide strategic advice to senior stakeholders, and manage high-profile cases, including class actions and large-scale litigation matters. Minimum 8 years post-admission experience in litigation or dispute resolution.
Senior Legal Officer (APS6/EL1 equivalent) – Manage a varied litigation caseload, including judicial review, AAT matters, and class actions, while ensuring compliance with the Legal Services Directions. Minimum 3 years post-admission experience in litigation or dispute resolution.

Key responsibilities
- Provide high‑level legal and strategic advice on complex litigation matters.
- Manage and progress litigation files, including drafting submissions, affidavits, and court documentation.
- Oversee and review legal work, including briefs to external providers, and instruct counsel.
- Identify and manage legal risks, escalating issues as required.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Represent the agency in negotiations and inter‑agency forums.
About you
Strong understanding of Commonwealth litigation processes and obligations under the Legal Services Directions 2017.
Ability to manage complex caseloads and provide clear, strategic advice.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Previous APS experience is highly desirable.
