The role of an Education Support Class position is to provide vital assistance to the educational services being delivered to students. This support must not include any duties that are defined as those of a teacher, as per clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor.
This role may involve specific support tasks, assisting teachers, supervised health and wellbeing support tasks, medical intervention support tasks, technical tasks that require a sound knowledge of basic technical and/or scientific principles, and routine technical support.
A key aspect of this role is providing routine support for teachers, supporting communication between teachers and parents, and communicating with teachers on routine matters related to students and/or other responsibilities.
The individual needs of all students are catered for through a range of programs providing additional support and extension.
