Opportunity
The Principal Environmental Advisor will be responsible for delivering environmental approvals across MinRes mine sites and providing technical advice across all aspects of our operations. You will lead and mentor our Senior and Advisor team members, supporting the continuity of operational projects by providing approvals support for onsite development activities across our operations and projects. Your expertise will be a key asset to the business as you engage with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders to drive the environmental approvals process. In this position, you will report directly to our Approval Lead and be part of a dedicated team that fosters a collaborative environment, promoting professional growth and development.
Key Responsibilities
* Undertake the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and approvals processes to ensure timely delivery of regulatory approvals under the Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Resources Act, Petroleum Pipelines Act, Mining Act, PartsIV andV of the Environmental Protection Act, the Federal Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act, as required for exploration and operational projects.
* Manage completion of Project Definition Forms for new projects and significant amendments, in line with approval schedules.
* Ensure preparation of Execution Plans and project schedules that are achievable based on available resources and benchmarked assessment timeframes.
* Communicate with internal stakeholders to obtain project information to enable planning of environmental studies and preparation of approval applications.
* Develop project‐specific and Business Unit approval strategies in collaboration with the Approval Lead, Senior Manager Environment, and relevant General Managers and Planning teams.
* Ensure biological surveys are undertaken to support environmental approvals.
* Identify and document the extent of biological survey areas required for the Commodity group and communicate to the Approval Lead and the Principal Biodiversity.
* Maintain relationships with consultants conducting environmental studies in accordance with agreed timeframes.
* Review and quality‐control consultant deliverables for environmental approval documents and deliver high‐quality applications to regulators.
* Develop templates for approval documents and management plans to support consistent, high‐quality submissions.
* Address RFI requests within timeframes agreed with regulators.
* Report to the Approval Lead and internal stakeholders at agreed frequencies on progress and status of works related to baseline studies and approvals documentation.
* Ensure Smartsheet dashboards are developed and maintained for key work areas.
* Document, assign, and mitigate critical approval risks.
* Liaise with external stakeholders and regulators to ensure all approvals are delivered on time.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree or higher in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
* Extensive experience in environmental operational and marine consulting or EIA‐related roles within the energy or mining sector.
* Comprehensive understanding of and ability to interpret environmental legislation, guidelines, standards, and other requirements.
* Demonstrated experience providing strategic and operational environmental advice across all business levels.
* Ability to characterise and assess project and operational risks and determine appropriate management measures consistent with the risk profile.
* Experience managing competing priorities in a fast‐paced environment, including conflict resolution.
* Demonstrated ability to work within large multi‐disciplinary teams and strong stakeholder engagement skills.
