About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate legal practitioner to join our team as a Civil Lawyer/Solicitor (Women's Rights).
* Provide legal advice, representation, and referrals across areas including family law, domestic violence, tenancy, and employment.
* Represent clients in courts and tribunals, including as a duty lawyer.
* Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver holistic, trauma-informed support.
* Participate in outreach work, including occasional remote travel.
* Deliver community legal education and build legal literacy.
* Build partnerships and engage with community-based organisations.
* Participate in law reform and advocacy projects.
The ideal candidate will possess strong teamwork and independent work skills, well-developed time management skills, and a commitment to social justice and equality. You will have excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to simplify legal jargon, and a personal commitment to reflection and self-care to build resilience and minimise the impact of vicarious trauma.
Requirements
To qualify, you will need to be eligible to hold a Practising Certificate in the Northern Territory. A minimum of 1 year of post-admission experience in an Australian legal practice is also desirable.
* Experience working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) and/or First Nations backgrounds.
* Knowledge of general civil law matters, particularly Domestic and Family Violence.
* Prior experience in Community Legal Centres and familiarity with the CLASS database.
* Strong understanding of legal, economic, and social issues affecting women in Central Australia.
