Field Buyer – Bechtel Corporation

Job Summary
In this role you will perform tasks involved in the formation and administration of purchase orders. You will prepare bidders' lists, qualify bidders, form bid packages, issue bid requests, participate in negotiations, recommend commitments, secure approvals, communicate with suppliers, and monitor supplier performance. Your efforts ensure potential and current suppliers comply with purchase-order requirements and deliver the required service and results to meet project needs.
Major Responsibilities
Prepare bidders' lists and qualify bidders.
Communicate with Engineering to assist in the preparation of material requisitions and to ensure requirements are understood.
Form bid packages and issue bid requests, coordinate bidder questions, and receive bids.
Prepare Commercial Bid Summary and recommendations for award.
Communicate with suppliers and Bechtel personnel to define requirements and assure purchase-order performance.
Identify, define, and secure agreement regarding purchase-order changes.
Initiate and process purchase-order revisions that establish scope and the effect on cost and schedule of agreed changes.
Education & Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 2–5 years of relevant experience, or 6–9 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge & Skills
Previous experience in field purchasing is preferred.
Experience in procurement of major equipment and/or bulk materials is an asset.
Experience on projects in a Buyer or Field Buyer role.
Knowledge of legal and commercial aspects of procurement of equipment and materials.
Knowledge of procurement of bare-rental construction equipment is an asset.
Knowledge of local business capability in the Cloncurry / Mt Isa region is an asset.
