Overview
GEO Healthcare provides primary healthcare to men in public prisons across Victoria. The role of Pharmacy Technicians is to assist, within their scope of practice, with the management of medications, including preparation for medication administration rounds, administering prescribed medications, and assisting in the management of medication inventory and ordering under supervision.
Responsibilities
- Assist in preparation for medication administration rounds and administer prescribed medications within scope of practice.
- Assist in management of medication inventory and ordering of medications and other pharmaceuticals under supervision.
- Support medication-related processes within a prison healthcare setting and collaborate with teams as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- Certificate III in Health (Hospital Pharmacy Technician or Community Pharmacy) or equivalent as approved by the Pharmacy Board of Australia.
- “Assist Clients with Medication” course as part of a Certificate III or Certificate IV in Health Care (e.g. Nursing Assistant).
- Successful completion of medication-related courses as part of an undergraduate degree in Nursing or Pharmacy.

- Strong computer and information technology skills.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and education.
Other Requirements
- Completion of a dispensary assistant module will be highly regarded.
- Medication Administration/Pharmacy Tech experience.
- Ability to work within a prison setting, with direct contact to people in prison in the delivery of healthcare.
- Satisfactory completion of a National Criminal History Check.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- Working outside of ordinary business hours may be required.
