Southern NSW Local Health District is seeking a General Paediatrician with a passion for rural medicine to join the paediatric team at South East Regional Hospital. This is a 6 month maternity leave relief position with a possibility of extension.

What You'll Be Doing
The Paediatrician will provide expert paediatric medical assessment and management of patients within the Department of Paediatrics. The role includes teaching, supervision and support of junior medical staff. Primary placement is at South East Regional Hospital with potential variation as approved to other facilities in Southern NSW. The Staff Specialist/VMO will work in outpatient clinics and contribute to education and training in the SNSWLHD Coastal Network. The position involves participation in a 24/7 on-call roster with telehealth consultation to hospitals in the Coastal Network. Clinical privileges are defined in the Southern NSW LHD scope of practice for general paediatrics.
The service supports a Level 4 Paediatric Unit with 6 inpatient beds and 4 short-stay beds, a well-staffed emergency department, telehealth to other sites, a Level 3 maternity service with ~300 births per year, and a varied outpatient paediatric caseload. The site is a training site for medical students in paediatrics and is accredited for Advanced Training in Paediatrics & Child Health (rural paediatrics/community & developmental paediatrics).
There is a strong emphasis on teaching with an Education and Simulation Centre based at the hospital.

Selection Criteria
- Recognised specialist qualifications – Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and/or equivalent specialist recognition. Applicants expected to be awarded Fellowship within six months may be considered; Advanced Trainees nearing completion are encouraged to apply.
- Demonstrated recent clinical experience and competence in general paediatric medicine including acute care, neonatal care and outpatient paediatrics; interest in paediatric service development, innovative models of care, and project leadership is desirable.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and build collaborative partnerships
- Strong skills in training and capacity building, teaching, continuing self-education, research and quality improvement
- Demonstrated effective clinical and interpersonal communication and IT skills
- Commitment to patient safety
- Availability for on-call roster; valid NSW driver’s licence
Occupational Health
Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination (OASV): This is a Category ‘A’ position. Proof of vaccination against influenza is required for NSW Health staff who enter Residential Aged Care Facilities or work in NSW Health RACFs.
