The Facility
As the only trauma centre outside of the Sydney Metropolitan area, The John Hunter Hospital provides tertiary emergency and trauma care and specialised complex surgical and medical care to a population of over 900,000. As the largest teaching hospital within Hunter New England, the hospital partners with local tertiary training organisations and hosts the HNE Simulation Centre. The new Innovation precinct is underway, offering exciting opportunities.
The Specialty Opportunities
G3 Cardiology and Gastroenterology: training in cardiac monitoring and minor procedures, with exposure to trauma, neurology, and orthopaedics.
MACU: Rapid assessment, diagnosis, and stabilisation of patients with acute medical conditions; fast-paced, multidisciplinary workflow.
E1 General Medicine: Comprehensive care for patients with acute and chronic conditions.
Rankin Park South: Rehabilitation unit focusing on post-amputation and deconditioning care in a goal-driven, multidisciplinary setting.
E2 Urology: General and complex surgical care across multiple specialties; hands-on experience in pre- and post-operative care.
E3 Elective Orthopaedics: Pre- and post-operative orthopaedic care, plus Trauma, General/Acute Surgery, and Vascular care.
G2 Neurology & Neurosurgery: Care of patients with neurological conditions and neurosurgical patients, with pre- and post-operative care and monitoring.
J3 General Surgery: Care for surgical procedures including colorectal and upper GI; pre- and post-operative support.
G1S Trauma/ENT: Critical care for trauma and ENT conditions; post-surgical recovery and complex patient management.
F3 Cardiovascular and Vascular Surgery: Pre- and post-operative care for heart, lung, and vascular surgeries.
5D Rehabilitation: Orthopaedic rehab and deconditioning with complex discharge planning.
F2: Respiratory, infectious disease, immunology, rheumatology and dermatology with high-flow oxygen and non-invasive ventilation; broad education opportunities.
