Job Description
The Project
ACCIONA has been selected to deliver Western Harbour Tunnel – Stage 2, Sydney's third harbour crossing. The new Western Harbour Tunnel (WHT) will connect to WestConnex at the Rozelle Interchange, cross underneath Sydney Harbour between Birchgrove and Waverton, and connect with the Warringah Freeway near North Sydney.
Project scope includes:
- Construction of approximately 4.8 kilometres of mainline tunnels with three lanes in each direction
- Civil, Mechanical and Electrical fitout of Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunnels
- Surface level work, including on and off ramps and tie-in work to the Warringah Freeway
In line with the above, ACCIONA is now seeking an Excavation Site Engineer to join the Western Harbour Tunnel – Stage 2 Project to contribute to the successful delivery of complex underground works. This role is ideal for someone with a passion for excavation, who thrives in a collaborative environment and is committed to safety, sustainability, and innovation.
Specific Tasks Include
- Coordinate and oversee excavation activities to ensure safe, timely, and cost-effective delivery
- Assist in planning materials, equipment, and systems for efficient excavation operations
- Maintain accurate documentation and uphold quality, safety, and environmental standards
- Collaborate with project teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders during planning and execution
- Monitor budgets and schedules, including cost control and 3-week lookahead planning
- Interpret excavation-specific design plans and geotechnical drawings
- Support and guide early-career engineers through mentorship and knowledge-sharing
Required Skills and Competencies
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
- Proven experience in excavation or underground construction projects
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster inclusive team environments
- Attention to detail and a proactive approach to safety and compliance
