Primary objective

Facilitate regional engagement and coordination across government and sector community safety initiatives, programs and

supports. The Assistant Director is a diverse role which will provide service to regions of the Northern Territory as part of the

Territory Community Safety Coordination Centre team.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. In consultation and partnership with the Director and Assistant Commissioner, coordinate engagement and service delivery in

matters relating to community safety, including targeting anti-social behaviour, alcohol misuse and issues affecting young

people and families.

1. Prepare high standard, accurate and timely briefs, reports, and contribute to high level submissions and Ministerial and

Legislative Assembly briefs on policy and operational issues.

1. Establish and maintain effective partnerships with key stakeholders, service providers, government and non-government

agencies to deliver effective community amenity and safety services.

1. Provide strategic advice to management and authoritative input into the development and review of safety focused operational

programs, reporting, policies and procedures.

1. Respond positively to change with a commitment to ongoing improvement and professional development.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to express ideas clearly and communicate with influence to a range of internal and

external stakeholders and clients, both orally and in writing, along with highly developed negotiation and conflict resolution

skills.

1. Demonstrated capacity to negotiate required outcomes in complex situations, engage with high level stakeholders, communities

of practice, and capacity to think laterally and show good judgement, intelligence and common sense in developing solutions

based on strategic analysis.

1. Ability to develop and contribute to community plans to ensure service continuity, surge capacity and responses to emerging

and identified issues, including the production of high-quality planning documentation that can be utilised by service partners.

1. Experience in undertaking strategic planning including the analysis of and contribution to the development of performance

measures which are aligned with government policy, environmental change and outcome needs.

1. Strategic, conceptual, research, analytical and diplomacy skills with a high level of political acumen.

2. Ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures and continuously improve the delivery of government services to

meet the changing needs of the client base, stakeholders and community.

Desirable

1. Tertiary qualifications or significant experience in a relevant field.

2. A thorough understanding of the structure and function of the NT Police operating environment, or ability to rapidly obtain.
