About The Program

A key recommendation from the Royal Commission emphasised the crucial role of families and carers in not only caring for their loved ones, but also in the overall functioning and sustainability of the mental health system. The Mental Health and Wellbeing Connect (Connect Centres) will form a vital component of the integrated services provided in the reformed Mental Health and Wellbeing system in Victoria. Services will be provided primarily by a team of individuals with personal experience as carers, and will offer support to families, carers, kin, and supporters of individuals facing mental health challenges, psychological distress, mental illness, or substance use concerns.

About The Role

As Volunteers, you will have the opportunity to engage in a range of support activities in the Mental Health and Wellbeing Connect Centre that will empower carers/supporters and family members to make meaningful change in their lives and the lives of the people they are supporting.

* Providing an overview of the center's activities
* Collect details of carers/supporters who attend the centre (if they wish to provide them)
* Assisting speakers/activity facilitators with group activities
* Provide a warm, inclusive, and welcoming approach
* Attend groups as a lived experience/ carer supporter/ family member
* Share experiences/ strategies/ knowledge during group sessions
* Participate in group work training to develop skills for co-facilitation
* Contribute ideas and reflections during group activities
* Assist with transport of carers/supporters to and from events (i.e., transport to and from walking group destination, picking up guest speakers/facilitators)

This is a rewarding opportunity and is your chance to join a team that will be shaping the future of mental health and wellbeing in Victoria.

If you have experience of caring for a loved one along their mental health journey and can see yourself helping others in our community who share in that experience, we'd love to hear from you
