An Australian R&D and manufacturing company developing advanced aerospace and defence systems is looking for a Ground Control Systems (GCS) Engineer to support the development, integration, and sustainment of ground control systems for UAV platforms.
This role will focus on the ground segment of UAV systems, working closely with autopilot software, communications links, and mission control interfaces to ensure reliable operation in real world environments. The position is primarily desk based with some involvement in testing and deployment activities, contributing to mission ready and defence compliant systems.
This is a full-time role based in Adelaide. For interstate candidates, relocation is required and a relocation allowance will be provided. Due to the nature of the work, Australian Citizenship is required.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop, configure, and maintain ground control systems for UAV platforms, including mission planning, telemetry, and operator interfaces
* Work closely with autopilot systems such as ArduPilot to support integration and system behaviour
* Support integration of UAV subsystems including communications, sensors, and onboard systems to ensure reliable data exchange with the ground station
* Contribute to system level engineering activities including verification and validation, performance assessment, and operational readiness
* Support SATCOM and communication link integration to enable beyond line-of-sight operations
* Assist with flight testing, system troubleshooting, and issue resolution in both lab and field environments
* Ensure systems are reliable, maintainable, and compliant with defence and aviation standards
Requirements
* Bachelor of Engineering in Aerospace, Mechanical & Aerospace, or similar
* Experience working with UAV systems, robotics, or aerospace platforms
* Strong hands‑on experience with ArduPilot (essential)
* Good understanding of flight operations, aircraft performance, or mission systems
* Experience in software development or scripting for system integration or tooling
* Exposure to systems engineering practices including integration, testing, and validation
* Experience with SATCOM or advanced communication systems
* Background in defence projects or defence related environments
* CASA RePL (up to 25kg) and/or BVLOS experience
* Experience working with ground control software or developing operator interfaces
