Overview
The GIS Specialist will continue to drive the vision of GIS within the KLC, manage the GIS systems and provide expert advice on all aspects of geo-spatial data analysis. This person will be a core member of the Business Operations Team and will consult with a cross-functional team, including traditional land owners, anthropologists, IT, legal and environment staff to provide innovative delivery of spatial information products and services to both internal and external users. GIS will facilitate the classification, access and visualisation of data and documents that support the effective management of on-country data collection and analysis, legal, cultural and business processes, analysis and provision of insights, and access to Aboriginal cultural heritage. The role operates from the KLC Broome office and may require occasional travel.
Key responsibilities
- Manage the enterprise GIS and continue to improve systems by understanding business requirements.
- Contribute innovative thinking to GIS and broader information management activities.
- Conduct regular training in the Web GIS and Desktop environment.
- Advise on GIS data acquisition and management, effective visualisation and efficient workflows for the GIS solutions.
- Provide strategic, policy and technical advice to key stakeholders.
- Develop sustainable processes for the future development and maintenance of the GIS solutions.
- Liaise, negotiate and effectively communicate with stakeholders, service and data providers.
- Provide customised GIS environment to enable staff with varying levels of skills to use the technology to capture and manipulate data, preferably in a SharePoint environment.
- Continue to build staff capabilities in GIS and promote a self-service model.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Tertiary qualifications in GIS or related field.
2. 4 or more years working in a GIS analyst/developer role.
3. Proven experience with corporate/enterprise information systems, including integrated GIS hardware, software, data standards, data sharing, security, maintenance, creation, prioritisation of data layers and user training.
4. Strong technical skills with ESRI ArcGIS products, including ArcGIS server.
5. High level skills in GIS data capture and the interpretation of captured and acquired data into meaningful data sets.
6. Demonstrated ability to think creatively, balanced with attention to detail for data management and quality control.
7. Strong organisational and communication skills.
8. Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to manage effective relationships with customers, stakeholders and colleagues.
9. Robust analytical and problem-solving skills.
10. Current ‘C’ class Drivers Licence.
Desirable
1. Programming ability to automate workflows.
2. Knowledge of GIS integration into a SharePoint environment.
3. Remote sensing – vegetation analysis.
4. An understanding of Native Title and related issues.
