Bundanon is seeking a Retail Officer to support the delivery of our retail strategy. This role combines day-to-day retail operations with opportunities to develop new products, enhance processes, and grow Bundanon's retail profile.

Bundanon is an art museum embedded in a 1,000 hectare landscape, in the Shoalhaven region of NSW. The organisation's mission is to operate the Bundanon properties as a centre for creative arts and education, to support the development of arts practice across all disciplines and to enable public access to the arts and to the landscape. Bundanon's vision is to promote creativity and learning based in a unique cultural and natural landscape.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Retail Officer is responsible for delivering high-quality retail operations across three outlets spanning two sites, while also driving the development and growth of Bundanon's online shop. This role supports the implementation of Bundanon's Retail Strategy, ensuring consistent product development, merchandising, and customer experience across all platforms. The position plays a key role in strengthening operational efficiency through stock and data management, POS implementation, and daily retail operations, while contributing to Bundanon's retail profile and revenue growth. The Retail Officer also supports the development of seasonal merchandise for the Art Museum's three annual exhibition seasons, along with ongoing Boyd and Bundanon branded items, curated external ranges and unique artist editions created in collaboration with the curatorial team.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Retail Operations & Development
* Implement Bundanon's Retail Strategy, ensuring objectives & revenue targets are achieved across all outlets.
* Manage retail operations across Bundanon's three outlets.
* Set pricing strategies and ensure profitability across all retail channels.
* Prepare and upload accurate product information and images to the new POS system.
* Ensure smooth data transition and minimal disruption to operations during POS implementation.
* Maintain accurate inventory records, coordinate stocktakes with finance team.
* Introduce new efficient processes for retail operations, including sales & stock management.
* Provide basic training for front-of-house staff on POS system functions, retail processes (as relevant) and products.
* Contribute to product development, sourcing, pricing, and supplier liaison, ensuring product ranges are aligned with exhibitions, brand standards & visitor experience.
* Ensure the presentation of retail spaces reflects Bundanon's brand and visitor experience standards.
* Ensure retail revenue and profitability targets are met, and new revenue opportunities are explored in collaboration with manager.
Online Retail Development
* Manage Bundanon's online shop, ensuring product listings, images, and descriptions are accurate and engaging.
* Work with Marketing to integrate online shop with campaigns, promotions, and seasonal programs.
* Monitor online sales, reporting trends and identifying growth opportunities.
* Liaise with Finance team to ensure smooth processes for order fulfilment, payments, and stock control.
* Develop initiatives to grow Bundanon's online customer base and support national reach.
Coordination & Project Management
* Assist with event support, including merchandise sales and FOH duties.
* Liaise effectively with internal teams and other external stakeholders including suppliers and other cultural organisations.
* Maintain clear project documentation and follow up on tasks and timelines.
* Implement a POS, inventory management & stock management system, including setting up of an Online store.
Visitor Information
* Provide courteous and professional assistance to visitors when engaging in retail transactions or enquiries.
* Support FOH staff in maintaining positive customer experiences by ensuring retail areas are welcoming, well-presented, and stocked.
* Respond to occasional customer queries about products, exhibitions, and Bundanon more broadly, referring to FOH staff where appropriate.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential
* Demonstrated experience in retail operations, customer service, or front-of-house roles, with knowledge of POS or inventory systems.
* Demonstrated experience in achieving KPIs and applying knowledge of budgeting, sales, and profitability to support retail growth.
* Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
* High level of accuracy and attention to detail in managing data, stock, and inventories.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and with diverse stakeholders.
* Proficiency with digital systems and platforms (e.g. Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative suite, databases).
* Experience using Point of Sale (POS) or inventory management systems.
* Understanding of visual merchandising and product development.
* Understanding of budgeting and profitability as it related to Retail departments.
Desirable
* Ability to work independently, show initiative, and problem-solve in a dynamic environment.
* Previous experience in the cultural, museum, or not-for-profit sector.
