tekFoundation is an Australian charity and not-for-profit organisation that connects tech professionals with charities and mission-driven organisations to help them solve technical challenges and amplify their impact — and it does this for free.
tekFoundation is seeking a non-executive director with senior-level experience in marketing, sales and communications to join its Board at a formative stage of the organisation's development.
tekFoundation is an early-stage charitable foundation working to address the growing digital exclusion faced by charities and community organisations. Having moved beyond establishment and proof of concept, the organisation is now entering a critical phase of growth, positioning and fundraising.
This appointment is intended to strengthen the Board's collective capability in market positioning, stakeholder engagement and revenue development, and to support disciplined decision-making as the foundation scales.
The role
The director will contribute strategic oversight and judgement in relation to tekFoundation's brand, market presence and revenue strategy. Working closely with the Chair, Board colleagues and the Head of tekFoundation, the role will focus on sharpening the organisation's value proposition, ensuring coherence between mission, messaging and fundraising, and supporting the Board's stewardship of growth.
Given tekFoundation's stage, the role requires a director who is comfortable combining governance perspective with practical guidance, without crossing into management.
Key contributions
* Provide Board-level oversight and challenge in relation to marketing, sales, communications and fundraising strategy.
* Assist the Board and management to clarify and articulate tekFoundation's value proposition, priority audiences and core messages.
* Advise on go-to-market and fundraising approaches appropriate to an early-stage charity, including partnerships, earned revenue and philanthropy.
* Support the development of a fit-for-purpose marketing and communications plan, proportionate to resources and risk appetite.
* Review performance indicators and campaign outcomes, helping the Board focus on what to continue, refine or discontinue.
* Act as an ambassador for tekFoundation, including making considered introductions to potential donors, partners and supporters where appropriate.
* Provide guidance on the effective use of volunteers, contractors and pro bono support, consistent with good governance.
Experience and capability
* Senior experience in marketing, sales, fundraising or business development, ideally across technology-enabled, entrepreneurial or purpose-driven organisations.
* Demonstrated ability to oversee positioning and growth strategies that translate mission into credible revenue and partnerships.
* Strong judgement in balancing ambition with organisational capacity and governance discipline.
* Well-established professional networks across corporate, philanthropic and/or technology communities, with a willingness to leverage these judiciously.
* Clear, persuasive communicator with the ability to challenge constructively and mentor founders or executives.
* Alignment with tekFoundation's mission and a strong sense of fiduciary responsibility.
Previous board experience is desirable but not essential; candidates with the capability and temperament to operate effectively at board level are encouraged to apply.
Time commitment
* Attendance at monthly Board meetings (online, with occasional in-person meetings in Sydney).
* Periodic strategy and review discussions with the co-founder outside formal Board meetings.
* An estimated additional two to four hours per month for review of materials, advice and introductions, with some variability around campaigns or events.
