Position classification: Aboriginal Health Worker / Aboriginal Health Practitioner Remuneration: $62,512.00 – $90,357.00 per annum ( super 17.5% leave loading where applicable) Hours per week: up to 38 Requisition ID: REQ620174 Location: Narrandera Who We Are Our Aboriginal Health unit provides culturally safe and accessible programs and services in the Riverina region. In addition to providing a service to inpatients and clients individually, we offer several programs and services that Aboriginal Health staff within the Murrumbidgee LHD are trained in and responsible for implementing. What You’ll Be Doing This role will work across two maternal and early childhood programs – Building Strong Foundations and Aboriginal Maternal Infant Health services. The Aboriginal Health Worker role is non-clinical and provides a variety of services in a community and/or hospital setting. These services include advocacy, support, and liaison and health promotion. Aboriginal Health Workers also communicate with, and facilitate access to, other government and non-government organisations and support services in order to provide care that meets the social, emotional and cultural needs of the patient/client. This communication may occur during and/or after the person’s contact with the health service. The Aboriginal Health Practitioner provides flexible, holistic and culturally sensitive health services to Aboriginal Clients, inpatients and the community, to achieve better health outcomes and better access to health services for Aboriginal people. The Aboriginal Health Practitioner will provide a range of direct clinical services as defined by the Scope of Practice for the community in which they work. Work with a midwife and child and family health nurse to deliver flexible, culturally appropriate antenatal, postnatal and early childhood health services. The Aboriginal Health Practitioner must be multi skilled to be able to deliver an appropriate service to meet the needs of Aboriginal patients from diverse cultural backgrounds, and to act effectively as cultural brokers between the Aboriginal patients and hospital system. You’ll work within a collaborative team that enables a culture of support. Your contribution as a healthcare professional will have a meaningful and positive impact, which is felt at a community level. Criteria Candidates Will Need To Meet The Following Criteria This is an identified position in accordance with Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977. Applicants must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent. Being a person of female gender is a genuine occupational qualification for this position under section 31H of the Anti-discrimination Act. NSW Working with Children Check. NSW Driver License and ability and willingness travel for work purposes.
