NRG Gladstone Operating Services – Gladstone QLD
NRG Gladstone Operating Services Pty Ltd (NRGGOS), a wholly owned subsidiary of NRG Energy Inc, operates and maintains the 6-unit, ****MW Gladstone Power Station – Queensland's largest single power station. NRGGOS operates the Station in a safe, reliable, responsible, and sustainable manner, achieved through the skills, knowledge, experience, innovation and drive of our people.
Starting in January ****, NRGGOS will offer individuals an opportunity to develop careers in the power generation industry.
The 18-month traineeship will provide successful candidates with a structured program that results in the attainment of both Queensland Workplace Health and Safety occupation licences as an Advanced Boiler (BA) and Open Turbine Operator (TO), as well as a Certificate IV in Electricity Supply Industry Generation (Operations). This position will work a *****-hour week on a 9-day fortnight basis, with periods within the training program where trainees will work a 12-hour shift roster.
Program Coverage
Formal training in theoretical aspects of modern power station practices.
On-the-job training of all operational aspects of the GPS Generating plant.
Learning about operation, start-up and shut-down of generating and auxiliary plant to ensure generation targets are achieved.
Experiencing how to support shift operations, maintenance and projects in coordination and isolation of equipment for plant outages.
On-the-job training to monitor, fault-find and take corrective action to maximise operational performance.
Working safely within the boundaries of the NRG Safety System and Environmental Procedures and Policies.
Working 12-hour shift rosters as required.
Qualifications & Experience
Applicants can apply if they possess a relevant engineering trade or related qualification partnered with several years of post-trade experience in heavy industry.
Applicants can apply if they do not have trade qualifications but must have a minimum of 5-10 years' experience in power generation or heavy industry.
Applicants must be career focused, motivated and display a safety-first, team-oriented approach to work.
Experience with Permit to Work and complex isolations will be highly regarded.
A positive attitude with demonstrated ability to work under pressure, solve problems and work in an organised manner within a small team.
The ability to communicate effectively, a genuine commitment to safety and a practical approach are considered important personal attributes for the role.
Candidates who already have relevant BA or TO tickets can also apply.
Pre-Employment Requirements
Successful completion of a drug and alcohol test and pre-employment medical.
9-day fortnight.
