Primary objective
Provide integrated delivery of family and child support services across the region under the Families and Regional Services Division responsible
for Child Protection and Youth; Family Support; Carer Support, Placements; and Business Support.
Context statement
Department of Children and Families provides a range of services focused on protecting children in the Northern Territory from harm. Providing
statutory services in remote Aboriginal communities including family support services for vulnerable children and their families. This position
entails living and working in a remote community.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Undertake statutory responsibilities and exercise in accordance with the Care and Protection of Children Act 2007 and departmental Policies
and Procedures.
2. Apply professional expertise in social welfare to the assessment of individual, family, and community issues and in the application of
appropriate methods of intervention with departmental clients.
3. Ensure the availability of reliable data through the accurate and timely recording of information on the Department's client information and
case management systems.
1. Participate in the development and implementation of community welfare programs.
2. Participate in the Child Protection After-Hours Service.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. A degree of an Australian tertiary institution, which gives eligibility for membership of the Australian Community Workers Association, the
Australian Association of Social Workers, or the Australian Psychological Society, or equivalent OR Diploma of Child, Youth and Family
Intervention AND Vocational Graduate Certificate in Community Services Practice (Statutory Child Protection) or Graduate Certificate in Safe
Communities (Child Protection).
1. Demonstrated skills in the assessment of family, interpersonal and community dynamics, the application of appropriate welfare and counselling
interventions, including a high level of ability to conceptualise and analyse information.
1. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment, including managing multiple tasks and being able to meet
deadlines.
1. Ability to apply the provisions of relevant legislation in working with children, families and individuals in a statutory relationship.
2. Demonstrated ability to communicate and work constructively within culturally diverse settings, including a demonstrated knowledge and
understanding of Aboriginal culture, family and community structures and an ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
6. Demonstrated willingness to take part in agency programs including but not limited to performance management, professional supervision
and stress management.
7. A high level of written and oral communication skills.
8. Demonstrated skills in the use of computers and an ability and willingness to undertake training in the program's computer-based data entry
system.
9. Preparedness to travel in 4WD vehicles and light planes as required and ability to undertake travel including overnight stays as necessary.
10. Current Northern Territory C class driver's licence.

criminal history will not exclude an applicant from this position unless it is a relevant criminal history). Applicants should include a certified copy

Protection Market Allowance of $7,238 per annum applies to this position, as per Determination 1019 of 2022. An Attraction and Retention
Allowance of $11,000 per annum applies to this position, as per Determination 1020 of 2022.

1. Extensive experience commensurate with the duties of the position, including highly developed professional skills in conducting strength-
based assessments, developing and delivering effective interventions, and a demonstrated capacity to apply best practice principles.
2. Significant experience working within a legislative framework and a demonstrated ability to interpret and apply complex legislation.
3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team setting.
4. Highly developed oral and written communication skills, including developing and delivering formal and informal training for staff and the
preparation of court reports.
6. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture, family and community structures.
7. High-level organisational skills including the ability to work independently manage time effectively and contribute to the professional
development and learning needs of colleagues.
8. Demonstrated skills in the use of computers and an ability and willingness to undertake training in the program's computer-based data entry
system.
9. Preparedness to travel in 4WD vehicles and light planes as required and ability to undertake travel including overnight stays as necessary.
10. Current C class driver's licence.
Desirable
1. Five years relevant experience including at least six months experience of child protection work and at least six months experience of working
with children in care.
