We are seeking a Security Architect to lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of enterprise security solutions, with a strong focus on cloud environments, particularly Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). This role plays a critical part in embedding security into every layer of the organisation's technology landscape, ensuring compliance, resilience, and protection of critical data and systems. You'll work cross-functionally with IT, risk, compliance, and business teams to align security architecture with organisational goals and evolving regulatory requirements. This role demands a balance of deep technical knowledge and strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence decisions, contribute to governance forums, and deliver clear, actionable technical documentation. Location: Melbourne Day Rate: $1,000 - $1,100 plus super per day Duration: 12 months with the potential to extend State government experience quired Hybrid working: 3 days in the office Key Responsibilities Enterprise Security Architecture: Design and implement secure, scalable, and compliant security solutions across on-premises, hybrid, and multi-cloud environments. Embed security principles into infrastructure and application architectures from the ground up, ensuring alignment with business objectives and strategic initiatives. Oracle Cloud Security: Lead the secure adoption and integration of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), leveraging native tools and services for identity and access management, encryption, monitoring, and governance. Ensure OCI deployments meet internal security policies and external compliance obligations. Cloud & Hybrid Security Governance: Apply industry best practices to secure cloud-native and hybrid environments. Develop and enforce security standards, controls, and policies across cloud platforms, including OCI, AWS, and Azure, ensuring consistency, visibility, and regulatory alignment. Risk Management & Threat Modelling: Identify and assess security risks across systems and services. Conduct threat modelling exercises, design mitigation strategies, and integrate proactive controls to reduce vulnerabilities and strengthen the organisation's cyber resilience. Security Automation & Monitoring: Support continuous compliance and real-time threat detection using security automation tools, SIEM/SOAR platforms (e.g. Splunk), and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices. Drive the adoption of security-first approaches within development and operations teams. Strategic Input & Stakeholder Engagement: Contribute to long-term security strategies and roadmaps by collaborating with IT and business leadership. Provide input into planning and governance forums, prepare technical recommendations, and advocate for security by design across all technology programs. Skills & Experience Previous experience working in a government department is essential Proven experience designing and implementing enterprise security architecture in hybrid and cloud-first environments. Strong hands-on expertise in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) security features and governance frameworks. Sound knowledge of other cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure) and their native security capabilities. Familiarity with key security and compliance frameworks such as ISO 27001, NIST, and IRAP. Proficiency in threat modelling, risk assessment, and translating risks into technical controls and mitigations. Experience with security automation tools, SIEM/SOAR platforms (preferably Splunk), and modern DevSecOps practices. Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and influence a diverse range of stakeholders. Highly Desirable Qualifications & Experience Certifications in Oracle Cloud, AWS, or Azure security. Experience implementing or managing SIEM solutions, particularly on the Splunk platform. Familiarity with defining security patterns aligned to recognised security design standards (e.g. VPDSS). Background in performing solution- and infrastructure-level risk assessments within large-scale enterprise environments.
