Offer description

Looking for a Saleyards Officer for position in Emerald!

Your new company
This local government area was formed in 2008 when several neighbouring shires came together, creating a region that now stretches across about 60,000 square kilometres with Emerald at its centre. It looks after more than $1.1 billion in community assets, including libraries, aquatic centres, parks and a big road network that helps keep the region connected. The area has a strong mix of agriculture and resource‑based industries—thanks in part to its links with the Bowen Basin—along with well‑established beef, cotton and horticultural producers. A wide range of services and facilities are provided to support the community, all aimed at helping the region grow, stay connected and remain a welcoming place to live.Your new role
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Saleyards Officer to join the team on a casual basis. In this role, you will play a key part in supporting daily saleyard operations and ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant handling of livestock. Working approximately 32 hours per week, your start and finish times will vary depending on saleyard requirements, providing a dynamic and hands‑on working environment. Responsibilities include assisting with day‑to‑day livestock operations and saleyard functions, ensuring safe and effective livestock handling in line with industry standards, and engaging professionally with stakeholders such as producers, buyers, agents, and transport providers. You will also be required to use software systems and technology relevant to saleyard operations while contributing to a positive and collaborative team environment. What you'll need to succeed

* Minimum C Class provisional licence
* Demonstrated knowledge and experience in livestock operations and saleyard functions
* Proven teamwork skills and ability to manage stakeholder relationships
* Experience using software/technology relevant to saleyard operations
* Strong knowledge of livestock handling and management techniques
* Tickets/accreditations to operate skid steer and/or welding machinery and equipment
What you'll get in return
If successful, you’ll join a supportive local government team on a 3‑month contract with an ASAP start, working 32 hours per week, Monday to Friday, at $55.07p/h - $63.28hr + penalties + super. You’ll play a key role in daily saleyard operations, working with livestock, supporting producers and buyers, and contributing to a safe, efficient, and well‑run facility. This is a great chance to build your livestock handling experience within a respected regional organisation.
