The Martu Justice Reinvestment Tribal Council (MJRTC) Strategy is a community‐defined framework designed to shift the justice system's focus from punitive measures to holistic, culturally grounded approaches. Our vision is simple but profound: Reclaiming power—shifting it from systems that harm, to communities that heal.
Until its formal incorporation, MJRTC is proudly auspiced by the Aboriginal Males Healing Centre (AMHC), an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation (ACCO) leading Pilbara advocacy for justice reinvestment and cultural healing.
About the Role
As the Community Development Officer, you will work under the line management of the CEO while taking governance direction from the MJRTC. Your primary focus will be supporting, coordinating, and strengthening Community Justice Circles (CJCs) across five Martu and Pilbara communities.
You will act behind the scenes to help community leaders turn their priorities into funded, measurable actions that reduce justice system contact and improve overall well‐being.
Key Responsibilities
* Community Engagement: Build deep, respectful relationships with Elders, families, and local leaders, facilitating yarning circles and community‐led consultations.
* Project Coordination: Turn community priorities into practical workplans, timelines, and next steps with high follow‐up discipline.
* Systems Advocacy: Navigate complex government and service systems while protecting and elevating the community's voice.
* Operational Support: Maintain accurate records, meeting notes, project documentation, and contribute to reports and funding proposals.
About You
You are a grounded, practical, and accountable professional who listens first and builds trust over time. You understand that Justice Reinvestment is long‐term work built through strong relationships, respect, and consistent follow‐through.
Minimum Experience & Requirements
* At least 2 years of experience in community development, justice, youth, family support, healing, AOD, mental health, or housing. Equivalent experience through lived expertise, cultural authority, or community leadership is highly welcomed.
* Demonstrated cultural competency and experience working with First Nations communities.
* Willingness and ability to live in and travel regularly to remote Western Desert communities.
* Current WA Driver's Licence (4WD/off‐road experience or a willingness to train is desirable).
* Current Working with Children Check (WWCC) and National Police Clearance (or willingness to obtain).
* Aboriginality is highly desirable for this position.
