This is an exciting opportunity for a Research Fellow (Level B) or Senior Research Fellow (Level C) to join the Queensland Digital Health Centre and contribute to the NASCENT program—Australia’s national infrastructure for real‑time clinical AI trials. In this role you will lead the design, development and deployment of a real‑time clinical AI evaluation platform across Australia while building your research profile in machine learning with transformative healthcare applications. Key Responsibilities
Lead architecture, development, testing and support of a vendor‑sourced platform for real‑time clinical AI evaluation. Develop code framework, proof of concept (MIMIC database), integrate with EMR‑connected solution and support NASCENT rollout at Townsville University Hospital and other sites. Deliver high‑quality research aligned with NASCENT, publish in leading outlets (e.g., AMIA, JAMIA, MedInfo), support AI use cases, secure funding and apply best‑practice methodologies. Conduct impactful research influencing policy, practice and/or commercialisation, achieving national and international recognition. Initiate and coordinate collaborative projects across UQ nationally and internationally. Apply and promote best‑practice research methodologies. Ensure teaching quality where undergraduate and postgraduate teaching is undertaken. Supervise students and research assistants, recruit and manage employees, provide performance feedback, resolve conflicts and ensure correct remuneration and benefits. Develop partnerships, engage in internal service roles, perform administrative functions and support colleagues. Qualifications
Completion of a PhD in Computer Science/Artificial Intelligence. Software engineering expertise including design and implementation of AI models and infrastructure platforms, data wrangling, and tools such as Python, Git, SQL, R. Healthcare data domain knowledge, especially EHR, OMOP, and MIMIC databases. Expert knowledge in empirical research methods for clinical AI evaluation, benchmark dataset creation and time‑series data. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a record of high‑quality publications. Experience supervising or working with research students (PhD, MPhil, Honours). High‑level organisational skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team. For Level C: established research profile, national recognition, record of securing external funding, supervision record and internal service roles. Application Information
