About our Team
The Budgeting and Reporting Branch supports the Department of Defence through provision of a framework of budget management and processes. It provides this on behalf of the Defence portfolio, in accordance with the overarching Commonwealth budget process and reporting requirements.
The Workforce Budgets and Analysis Directorate is responsible for strategic management of the Defence workforce budget, including average funded strength and average staffing level.
The directorate is responsible for developing, analysing and reporting on the overall workforce budget across Defence (more than $17 billion per annum).
The directorate is responsible for analysis and advice on the financial implications arising from new and existing workforce policies and initiatives. It also leads the Workforce Community of Practice to improve understanding of workforce budgeting and best practice in Defence.
The Commonwealth Budget Coordination Directorate is responsible for managing the Defence budget at the Portfolio level and working in this team offers the opportunity to work on issues of high strategic importance to Defence in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
The directorate is responsible for delivering the Defence Budget in accordance with the Commonwealth Budget process and key responsibilities include: developing the Defence Portfolio Budget Submission; preparing Portfolio Budget Statements and Portfolio Additional Estimates Statements; briefing the CFO and Defence Senior Leadership team; and engaging with central agencies, particularly the Department of Finance.
