Homes NSW leads work to deliver more social and affordable housing, end the cycle of homelessness, and deliver quality public housing to our 262,000 tenants across NSW. The Design Office within the Housing Portfolio champions, leads and drives high quality design across all Homes projects.

The Graduate – Design Office role provides entry-level professional support within the Homes NSW Design Office, contributing to the delivery of high-quality, sustainable, well-designed social and affordable homes and great places.

The position assists multidisciplinary project teams and gains practical exposure to government governance frameworks, design and planning controls and public sector delivery environments, while applying and developing foundational professional knowledge.

What you'll do

The role is suited to recent graduates seeking to apply their tertiary qualifications within a government design context and to build practical experience across concept design, design development and assurance functions, and broader design advocacy and guidance development.

Your role will include:

* Assist in undertaking analysis of precinct context, site conditions and relevant planning controls to support feasibility and early design activities.
* Contribute to research and review of statutory requirements, policy settings and design considerations relevant to housing delivery.
* Support the preparation of project briefs, design documentation and presentation material for internal governance and design assurance processes.
* Collate and synthesise technical and project information to assist in the preparation of internal reporting and briefing material.
* Provide coordination and administrative support across assigned projects, including maintaining documentation, tracking actions and supporting consultant engagement processes.
* Assist in reviewing documentation against applicable design standards, specifications and compliance requirements under supervision.
* Build constructive working relationships with internal stakeholders and external consultants to support collaborative delivery.
* Identify and appropriately escalated issues that may impact project delivery in line with established governance and supervision arrangements.

What we're looking for

* Strong design skills and foundational knowledge of architecture and urban design, gained through tertiary study.
* Demonstrated ability to support the preparation and coordination of reports, presentations and project documentation.
* Strong visual, written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesise technical information into clear and structured material.
* Demonstrated organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities with accuracy and attention to detail.
* Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment and respond positively to feedback and direction.

What We Offer

We offer a variety of benefits, including:

* A challenging and rewarding career
* Flexible, autonomous work environment
* Competitive pay and conditions
* Training and development opportunities to build and maintain capabilities
* Health & Wellbeing and Employee Assistance Programs.
