We are in a rebuilding phase for the organisation with a sharpened focus on completing historical Treaty settlements and supporting Takutai Moana determinations.We have two opportunities for people who are passionate about our kaupapa, enjoy learning, and achieving tangible outcomes. You will also be developing skills and experience that are in demand right now.At Te Tari Whakatau, our Whāinga Amorangi plan and our mahi means you'll be given daily opportunities to engage with tikanga and te reo Māori. You'll be supported and encouraged to develop skills and an understanding of te ao Māori. You will experience the privilege of resolving historical Treaty claims and supporting the legal recognition of customary Takutai Moana rights.Te Haeata/The OpportunityWe are seeking to fill two Analyst Level 2 positions.Policy TeamThis role is responsible for providing policy advice and analysis to support historical Treaty of Waitangi settlement negotiations and Takutai Moana determinations.The Policy team leads strategic and operational policy and monitoring projects. The Analyst Level 2 supports the development of policy advice, provides information to support briefings to the Minister, Cabinet and Parliamentary Select Committees, and represents Te Tari Whakatau in external meetings.It is important that you have knowledge of Treaty of Waitangi settlements and Takutai Moana (Marine and Coastal Area) Act 2011 and Ngā Rohe Moana o Ngā Hapū o Ngāti Porou Act 2019, understand Māori Crown perspectives and frameworks and issues facing groups seeking to engage with the Crown.The work you will be doing requires experience in policy development, including monitoring developments and literature in relevant areas, researching and collecting information, liaising with internal and external groups, and drafting papers.Te Tira KurapounamuTeams within Te Tira Kurapounamu work with iwi Māori to resolve historical grievances by negotiating fair and durable Treaty of Waitangi settlements. These settlements include historical, cultural, financial and commercial redress that provides a foundation for strengthening the Māori Crown relationship into the future.The Analyst Level 2 role is responsible for providing advice on policy issues, negotiation processes, and implementation steps related to historical Treaty of Waitangi claims. You will:assist claimant groups to enter into negotiations with the Crownnegotiate with claimant groupsimplement Deeds of Settlementdevelop policy adviceprovide briefing and related services to the Minister, Cabinet and Parliamentary Select Committeesrepresent Te Tari Whakatau in external meetings.He pūkenga tou/Skills and experienceTo be successful in these roles you will:bring knowledge and awareness of Te Ao Māori, Te Reo Māori me onā tikanga, me te Tiriti o Waitangi/Treaty of Waitangi and issues facing groups seeking to engage with the Crownbe highly motivated and take ownership of your workbe comfortable working with and relating to a wide range of peoplehave well-developed written and oral communication skillshave knowledge of the machinery of governmenthave a relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience.Mō mātou/About usTe Tari Whakatau is an independent departmental agency hosted by the Ministry of Justice - Te Tāhū o te Ture.
