Are you an experienced finance professional within Local Government?
AEC Group is seeking a local government finance expert like you.
This isn't just another finance role.
This is an opportunity to leverage your local government knowledge and apply it to diverse, high-impact projects.
Instead of working for one council, you'll be a trusted advisor to many, helping to shape financial strategy and sustainability for communities across Australia.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive financial research, data analysis, and policy evaluation, to support evidence-based decision-making within a local government context.
Support senior financial analysts in modelling data, developing financial plans, pricing models, financial performance analysis, performance benchmarking, capital works planning, rate modelling and analysis, service pricing models, asset utilisation, fleet management and forecasting utility services consumption and long-term financial forecasts to guide local and regional planning.
Collaborate across departments and with external stakeholders to ensure that financial insights align with project objectives, such as financial sustainability, community development, infrastructure investment and service delivery.
Prepare clear, concise reports, briefing papers, and presentations that communicate complex economic and financial findings to both technical and non-technical audiences, including councillors and executive management.
Build and maintain trusted relationships with clients and partners, demonstrating a strong understanding of governance processes, regulatory frameworks, and regional priorities.
The Ideal Candidate will have:
Deep, hands-on experience (2+ years) in a finance or accounting role within a local council or government sector.
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or Business-related field.
Strong quantitative skills, with experience in financial models, statistical analysis and data visualisation tools being a plus.
Good communication skills with the ability to clearly convey complex information to non-technical audiences.
Detail-oriented, with a commitment to producing high-quality, accurate work.
Keen to develop as a project manager, gradually taking on broader project manager responsibilities
Interest in expanding knowledge in local government finance and innovative analytical methods.
