Our team
Geoscience Australia is undertaking an Organisational Transformation Program (the Program) to design and implement operating model changes to ensure that the organisation remains fit for purpose into the future. The Program will undertake organisational design and incorporate recommendations from recent internally initiated reviews and audits. The Program will align activities into cohesive, achievable workstreams that will allow us to deliver effective long-term change. The Program will uplift key areas to improve our performance, resilience and impact and ensure that the organisation can continue to successfully deliver into the future.
The Transformation Program Office is responsible for planning, coordinating, monitoring, reporting, and evaluating delivery and managing change and communications across the following program workstreams:

The key duties of the position include:
The Business Analyst plays a key role in understanding, analysing and improving the organisation's business processes to enable effective decision-making and uplift organisational performance. The position works both collaboratively and independently to investigate issues, assess alternative solutions, and provide well-reasoned recommendation that align with strategic outcomes.
The role requires someone who can take ownership of their work from planning through to delivery – including setting out clear steps to complete tasks, proactively managing tasks, reviewing their own work, and maintaining a high standard of quality. The Business Analyst will be expected to think broadly about how their work interacts with other projects, programs, and organisational priorities, and communicate progress clearly to stakeholders.
In this role you will:
Define and tailor business analysis approaches for complex initiatives
Lead workshops and engagement activities to explore needs and develop coherent requirements.
Analyse and document current and future-state business processes and identify improvement opportunities.
Investigate issues, gather data and insights, and provide evidence-based recommendations.
Develop functional requirements and assist with supporting documentation for decision-making.
Build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships and foster collaborative working across diverse parts of the organisation.
Work autonomously where required, while also actively contributing to a positive, high-performing team environment.
Required skills, knowledge, experience and/or qualifications:
Technical and analytical capability:
Minimum 4 years' experience leading end-to-end business analysis on medium to large initiatives.
Demonstrated experience using best-practice analysis methodologies and frameworks.
Experience working with a range of delivery methodologies, including Agile.
Proven ability to analyse complex information, identify patterns and issues, and develop practical, evidence-based recommendations.
Experience documenting business processes, requirements, and functional specifications to a high standard.
Qualifications in business analysis or related field highly desirable.
Work approach and professional skills:
Demonstrated ability to work both collaboratively and independently, taking responsibility for planning and delivering your own work.
Strong initiative and sound judgement, with the ability to anticipate issues, escalate appropriately, and proactively identify improvements.
Commitment to delivering high-quality outputs, including thoroughly reviewing your own work for accuracy and completeness.
Ability to think strategically and understand how pieces of work interact with broader organisational goals, dependencies and risks.
Strong communication skills, including the ability to keep stakeholders informed of progress, clarify requirements, and contribute to collaborative decision-making.
Demonstrated experience working across multiple projects or within an integrated program of work.
