Primary objective

Undertake various roles in financial reporting and budget development including financial processing and analysis activities to assist

in the preparation of agency and whole of government consolidated financial reporting.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Assist the unit to meet the Territory's internal and external fiscal reporting requirements, including provisions of financial

management support, consolidation of financial information, and preparation of whole of government reports.

2. Provide advice to stakeholders on the Territory's financial management and accountability framework, and accounting and

budgetary requirements

3. Analyse and monitor the financial performance and financial position of government agencies, and liaise with them to resolve

issues in accordance with Australian accounting standards.

4. Assist in preparation of financial reports, ministerials, briefs, and other correspondence.

5. Actively participate in divisional projects and work as an effective team member.

6. Develop and maintain respectful working relationships with team members and other government agencies.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Experience with financial report preparation, for example financial statements, management reports, financial analysis reports.

2. Sound analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to extract and interrogate financial data and propose solutions, using

sound reasoning and judgement.

3. High attention to detail, good organisational and time management skills, with the ability to work autonomously and prioritise

work to ensure deadlines are met.

4. Ability to work under pressure in a team environment, adapt to changes and grasp new concepts quickly.

5. Sound written and oral communication skills, and ability to convey financial advice in clear and simple terms that is appropriate

for the intended audience.

6. Good interpersonal skills, ability to develop and maintain professional relationships, and work collaboratively with people from

diverse cultures.

Desirable

1. Tertiary qualifications or current studies, majoring in accounting, finance or a related field.

2. Experience in public sector systems, such as Government Accounting System, Smartlink, NTG Pay, APEX Budget Reporting

System, Ledger Transfer Fund and AR Wizards.

financial reports, such as financial statements prepared in accordance with Australian accounting standards, budget and or

management reporting.

1. Excellent attention to detail, good organisational and time management skills, with the ability to work autonomously, under

pressure and prioritise work to ensure deadlines are met.

1. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a high performing team, manage own workload and competing deadlines,

and supervise other team members.

1. Written and oral communication skills to a high standard, with demonstrated experience in conveying complex or technical

financial advice in clear and simple terms that is appropriate for the intended audience.

1. Good interpersonal skills, ability to develop and maintain professional networks, and work collaboratively with people from

diverse cultures to achieve organisational objectives.

Desirable

1. Tertiary qualifications or current studies, majoring in accounting, finance or a related field.

2. Sound understanding of resource allocation principles and public sector financial management frameworks and systems.

1. Demonstrated conceptual, analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to conduct complex financial analysis and provide

accurate advice on financial issues, including interpretation of legislation and accounting standards, using sound reasoning and

judgement.

1. Sound knowledge and experience of accounting concepts and their practical application, including preparation of consolidated

financial reports from multiple financial entities, in accordance with Australian accounting standards, budget and or management

reporting, preferably in a public sector context.

1. Excellent attention to detail, exceptional organisational and time management skills, with the ability to work autonomously and

prioritise work to ensure deadlines are met.

1. Highly developed written and oral communication skills, with a demonstrated experience in conveying complex or technical financial

advice clearly and appropriate for the intended audience.

1. Demonstrated ability to work as a senior member of a high performing team, manage own workload and competing deadlines, and

supervise other team members to ensure team deadlines are met.

1. Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to develop and maintain professional networks, and work collaboratively with people from diverse

cultures to achieve organisational objectives.

1. Demonstrated ability to build and sustain positive relationships within the department and across government, and to influence

individuals and agencies to achieve better outcomes.

Desirable

1. Tertiary qualifications majoring in accounting, finance or a related field.

2. Member of CPA Australia or Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, or similar body.

3. Comprehensive understanding of the Northern Territory Government's financial management and accountability framework.
