It's an exciting time for our Hospital Medical Records and Health Information teams as we start to transition to Digital Medical Records over the next few months. To support our teams and this transition, we have an opportunity for a Clinical Coding Auditor to join our team.- You will primarily be responsible for auditing the hospitals coding documentation and identifying deficiencies with the aim of optimising DRG allocation to accurately reflect patient complexity, improve external audit outcomes and maximise hospital revenue, including:
- Auditing of clinical coding
- Support ongoing development and implementations of the UnitingCare Health Coding Optimisation Program and all related systems
- Collate, analyse and report on audit results to HIM/coding staff
- Assist in the development and implementation of the Annual Health Information Services Quality Plan
- Assist the Clinical Coding Team with the allocation of ICD-10-AM disease and ACHI procedure codes to all hospital admissions
- Clarify inconsistent, ambiguous or non-specific information in the medical record with treating medical practitioners
- Support the Coding Manager with regards to coding process related improvements and strategic initiatives for the Clinical Coding Service
**Essential Skills & Experience**:
- Bachelor of Health Information Management (HIM) or HIMAA Accredited Clinical Coding Certification
- Experience coding in a hospital environment with a varied casemix
- Demonstrated experience conducting coding audits and collating, analysing and reporting results
- Extensive knowledge of ICD-10-AM, ACHI, ACS and AR-DRGs
- Sound understanding of auditing as a tool for continuous quality improvement
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks effectively to meet deadlines
- Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
**Desirable**:
- Completion of a Clinical Coder Auditing course
- Sound knowledge of casemix funding and the impact of clinical coding on the private hospital revenue cycle
