Your opportunity
We love seeing our people grow — and following an internal promotion, we are now looking for a dynamic VTS Operator to join the Newcastle based Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) team on a permanent full-time basis.
The VTS operates 24 hours a day seven (7) days a week, providing all mariners and port stakeholders with a quality Vessel Traffic Service.
VTS promotes improved safety and efficiency of vessel traffic, protecting marine environments and port infrastructure by providing a continuous monitoring service to all participating vessels.
This role is based in
Newcastle
and here's how your impact will truly count:
* Coordinate the movement of all vessels in the port area and maintain high situational awareness for the safe movement of vessels within the VTS coverage area.
* Operate VTS equipment and systems that enable monitoring and management of traffic.
* Participate in emergency response within the port including oil spills, chemical spills and firefighting.
* Maintain compliance with and follow operating procedures within the VTS.
* Operate Port Management System to ensure data is kept up to date within the system.
* Coordinating interface between Port Authority and allied services and other port services
* Perform administration duties such as logging and reporting shift activities and data entry.
* Support the continuous improvement of VTS through active participation in the review of VTS procedures.
What you'll bring
* Hold a valid or ability to obtain C0103/1 (V103/1) VTS Operators certificate.
* Hold a valid or ability to obtain Marine Radio Operators Licence
* Maritime qualification (desirable)
* Experience using Harbour Management Systems software(desirable)
* Experience in VTS systems and port operations (desirable)
* Good, effective written and oral communication, time management and organisational skills
* Demonstrated ability to work independently or as part of a small team.
* Ability to remain professional and calm in high workload and port emergency situations.
* Willing adopter of new technologies and methodologies with the ability to learn new computer-based systems.
