**Introduction**
Defence People Group delivers high quality human resource outcomes for the Department of Defence and is seeking an exceptional senior executive to fill a position at the SES Band 2 level.
As part of the Senior Leadership Group, you will play a key role in promoting and influencing a shared commitment to the strategic direction of Defence. You will:
- Lead and manage a Division practicing inclusive leadership and collaboration;
- Demonstrate strong judgement and capitalise on innovative alternatives to resolve complex problems;
- Effectively challenge the status quo when required;
- Demonstrate resilience and personal accountability for the quality of advice and delivery of results through engaging, collaborating and partnering; and
- Demonstrate exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
**The Role**
People Services delivers key HR services across Defence, including promoting and maintaining a safe work environment, managing the pay and benefits of our people, being a trusted HR partner, delivering Defence honours and awards, recruiting the Defence APS workforce and supporting a fair and respectful workforce by reinforcing Defence values. The Division also manages complaints and complex case resolution and medical/rehabilitation and redeployment/redundancy case management.
People Services Division is committed to fostering cooperation and collaboration between our stakeholders to ensure integrated, effective and efficient services delivery that meets both our clients and organisations mutual needs. It is focused on streamlining, simplifying and automating processes, therefore reducing the administrative burden for our customers and staff.
People Services supports a fair, respectful and safe workplace by reinforcing Defence values and:
- Recruiting and retaining the APS people with skills Defence needs;
- Finding solutions to complex and sensitive people issues;
- Providing strong policy and support in relation to workplace health and safety;
- Managing conduct, performance and probation;
- Assisting ill and injured APS employees;
- Providing alternative dispute resolution and complaints management services;
- Recognising and rewarding commitment, and administering the Defence honours and awards system;
- Managing Defence personnel pay and benefits;
- Leading HR system reform; and
- Supporting the SLG workforce across Defence.
In this key role, you will lead the Division to delivery across Defence of a diverse range of critical people services and manage a large and dispersed workforce, budget and resources to deliver agreed outcomes and activities. As the head of this Division, you will bring strong leadership, best practice HR and people management skills, and the ability to deliver outcomes and objectives in a complex environment.

Engagement may be negotiated on an ongoing or non-ongoing basis. To be eligible, applicants must be Australian citizens. This is a security-designated position and the successful applicant will be required to hold or obtain a security clearance at the Negative Vetting 1 level.
