About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Design Engineer with strong experience in scaffolding, formwork, and temporary works design. The successful candidate will support our growing engineering consultancy by delivering high-quality structural and temporary works designs in accordance with client specifications, project timelines, and Australian standards.
This role involves design, drafting, modelling, analysis, client communication, and collaboration across multiple stakeholders—both internal and external.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Design, draft, and model scaffold plans using AutoCAD and/or Revit, in line with client project requirements and timelines (including formwork designs)
Review scaffold designs and prepare detailed calculation reports
Provide draft sketches or hand sketches of scaffold designs to designers/drafters
Prepare structural models and conduct structural analysis using engineering software
Meet with clients and stakeholders (on-site and off-site) to clarify project needs and translate them into accurate technical drawings and plans
Apply engineering specifications, standards, and contract provisions to all design and drafting work
Conduct detailed design reviews to ensure accuracy, compliance, and issue resolution
Assist with preparing Bills of Materials (BOM) for accurate measurement, estimation, and pricing of scaffold projects
Maintain precise records of all design revisions and updates using company systems
Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and work methods
Identify, report, and help manage hazards, incidents, accidents, and near misses
Participate in safety initiatives, housekeeping audits, and required training
Ensure high-quality output and attention to detail in all work
Safeguard company assets and report misuse or loss
Communicate effectively with all stakeholders
Build and maintain strong internal and external professional relationships
Attend scheduled internal and external meetings
Provide support to drafters and engineers as required
Carry out additional duties as reasonably requested, aligned with skills and experience

Skills & Competencies (Person Specification)
Previous experience in scaffolding and/or formwork (temporary works is essential)
Experience in a senior technical engineering role
Proficiency with AutoCAD (2D and 3D), Revit, Navisworks, Robot Structural Analysis, or similar packages
Familiarity with structural analysis software
5+ years of structural engineering experience within the construction industry (preferably temporary works)
Strong ability to read, interpret, and follow drawings, procedures, and work instructions
Solid understanding of Australian construction terminology and building methods
Effective problem-solving abilities with a self-motivated, results-oriented mindset
Strong time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
Commitment to quality, safety, sustainability, and productivity
Intermediate to advanced computer proficiency (Microsoft Office)
Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive internal working relationships
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
Professional membership with Engineers Australia (highly desirable)
