Primary objective
Supports and provides collaborative, appropriate, proficient, coordinated direct and indirect clinical care for complex client presentations, including
working with and alongside less experienced nursing and midwifery staff, within the specialty area.
Context statement
Employing extensive experience, skills and knowledge and holding current vaccination certification the position has responsibility for the oversight
and provision of child health programs, and health outcomes for children within the Barkly Region. Developmental screening, the social emotional
well-being, of children and families are key responsibilities of this position. The successful applicant will possess understanding and experience of
family partnership, primary health care, public and preventative health, applied knowledge of health promotion and community development
principles. The position will demonstrate an understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal health and interact with people of diverse cultures.
Applicants will be required to have experience driving a manual vehicle and be eligible to obtain a NT drivers licence and may be required to reside
in and/or travel to remote communities via 4WD or light aircraft within the Barkly Region
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Apply specialist knowledge, skills, attributes and abilities within a defined practice area in therapeutic and professional relationships with
individuals, as well as with families, groups and communities.
2. Is recognised by the team for their expertise, is a resource for others, and engages in agreed independent practice under the supervision and
management of the team.
3. Accountable for providing sound professional advice and for assessment, planning, review, evaluation and coordination of comprehensive
client care and/or case management within the speciality area.
4. Demonstrate Department of Health values - safe; responsive; kind – in all decision-making and interactions with consumers and colleagues.
5. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to
ensure high quality, secure services and workplaces.
6. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Current registration with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia or eligible for same.
2. Demonstrated highly developed clinical knowledge and skills in a relevant area of nursing/midwifery relating to this vacancy, supporting well
developed clinical decision-making and problem solving to achieve best practice healthcare outcomes.
3. Demonstrate and promote a learning environment through clinical support, instruction, and feedback including mentoring students,
graduates and less experienced staff across the multidisciplinary team.
4. Experience contributing to the development and implementation of local/regional policy, including interpreting established professional
precedents and organisational policies and supporting change management.
5. Demonstrated use of effective communication skills to influence and convince staff and/or clients, including on sensitive matters requiring
tact and diplomacy
6. Demonstrates well-developed knowledge and understanding of the social and cultural issues, influences and sensitivities that influence
health care provision for clients and families.
Desirable
1. Graduate Certificate beyond entry-to-practice relevant to specialty area.

Ongoing appointment is subject to attainment of Graduate Certificate beyond entry-to-practice relevant to specialty area.
The preferred or recommended applicant will be required to hold a current working with children clearance notice and undergo a criminal history
check. A criminal history will not exclude an applicant from this position unless it is relevant to the position. This role carries specific immunisation
requirements. To be eligible for appointment you will be required to meet the immunisation requirements associated with Category A healthcare
