Job Title: Junior Lawyer in Litigation and Redress Unit
The Department of Education Victoria is seeking a junior lawyer to join its Legal Division. The successful candidate will work in the Workplace and Education Law (WEL) branch, specifically in the Negligence Litigation and Redress unit (NLR). This unit manages all litigated and non-litigated negligence claims brought against the department.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assist in the provision of high-quality legal advice on a wide range of claims, including personal injury and property damage claims, bullying, and historical sexual abuse claims.
* Work closely with Principal Lawyers and Managers and Senior Lawyers in the Legal Division to manage the department's responses to requests for information about applications for Redress.
* Provide timely legal advice in short timeframes and assist with the department's response to the National Redress Scheme.
* Develop knowledge of tort law, common law, and Wrongs Act, as well as experience in negligence litigation claims, including duty of care and risk management.
* Contribute to creating an inclusive work environment that reflects the community the department serves.
