What you will do as the Assistant Director, Data
Working in the Technical and International team, you will be the leading data expert for the AER. You will use your specialist data skills to contribute to a range of different matters including in support of investigations, monitoring, surveillance and economic regulatory functions. This will often involve working in multidisciplinary teams alongside line area team members and other specialists from the Technical and International team.
As The Assistant Director, Data, You Will
* Shape and prepare data: Identify relevant data, collate and enrich it, and ensure it is ready for analysis.
* Generate insight: Apply advanced analytics and visualisation to uncover patterns, trends, and deeper insights that inform decisions.
* Innovate and optimise: Develop bespoke solutions and automation to improve efficiency and accuracy in agency processes.
* Build capability: Support teams to strengthen analytical skills and embed best‐practice methodologies.
* Act as a strategic partner: Collaborate across the agency and externally to share expertise and drive innovation in analytics and AI.
About You
* Excellent problem‐solving skills. A highly developed ability to define business problems, and to derive accurate and relevant insights from a broad range of data to meet a wide variety of complex use cases.
* Expertise in one or more analytical programming languages (e.g. R, Python, SQL).
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey complex concepts to a variety of audiences.
* A highly developed ability to contribute expertise to multidisciplinary teams, and to develop and maintain relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
* A highly developed ability to manage a demanding workload across multiple projects with competing deadlines, and to manage and contribute to capability‐building initiatives.
* A demonstrated ability to manage, develop and mentor junior team members. Experience managing other data specialists is highly desirable.
* Expertise in a broad range of data acquisition, processing, analysis and visualisation techniques and a demonstrated commitment to maintaining currency of that expertise.
* Expertise in a broad range of data acquisition, processing, statistical, AI and machine learning techniques, including the ability to review the use of these techniques by others and a demonstrated commitment to maintaining currency of that expertise.

Salary
$127,908 - $141,555 (plus 15.4% superannuation)
