* $124,393 - $140,315 + up to 15.4% Superannuation (Includes scheduled March 2026 pay increase in accordance with the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement 2024. Applicants commencing prior to the pay increase will be appointed within the pay range of $120,303 - $135,701)

The Role
The Deputy Director Radiation Hazard Management (DDRHM) is the team leader for the radiation health physics section of the Directorate of Defence Radiation Safety and Assurance (DRSA).

DDRHM's prime role will be as the Defence Qualified Expert (DQE) for the management of hazards arising from controlled radiation sources held under the Defence Source and Facility licences (issued by ARPANSA) as well as non-controlled radiation apparatus (items of plant under Comcare).

DDRHM will also provide technical oversight of the radiation hazards arising from the logistics life cycle for Defence materiel that contains a controlled source.

About our Team
The primary role of the Directorate of Defence Radiation Safety and Assurance (DRSA) is to ensure Defence compliance with:

* The Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Act 1998 (ARPANS) and Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Regulations 2018
* The Conditions of the Defence Source and Facility Licences, and the Conditions of the Permit issued by the Australian Safeguards and Non-Proliferation Office (ASNO).

DRSA also assists Commander Joint Logistics in their role as the Single Point of Accountability (SPA) for the Defence radiation safety domain. DRSA is the single point of contact between Defence and ARPANSA.

Our ideal candidate will have sound leadership experience and demonstrated success working in ambiguous environments with changing priorities. We seek a 'can do' attitude and confident career acumen, balanced with sound judgement and analysis.

You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be familiar producing products and policy. You will also have a track record of building and maintaining positive and productive stakeholder relationships.

Under broad direction, undertake a range of duties relating to the management of radiation hazards within the Defence Radiation Safety domain, including:

* Manage the Radiation Hazard Management Section of the DRSA Directorate.
* Ensure Defence compliance with the relevant Radiation Safety Acts, Regulations, Codes and Standards as well as the conditions applying to their ensuing licences and permits.
* Plan and execute licence /permit management activities and related regulatory requests on Radiation Safety inventory, assets and practices.
* Provide advice on the application and interpretation of Radiation Safety policy, plans and procedures.
* Analyse complex to very complex Radiation Safety issues, applying expertise to identify and recommend courses of action.
