Offer description

Join City of Moreton Bay as a Senior Planner (Biodiversity Planning focus) and help shape and enhance our communities for today and tomorrow. A key priority is translating biodiversity planning strategy into land‐use planning.

You will contribute input to City of Moreton Bay's New Planning Scheme program and other city‐shaping projects such as growth areas, neighbourhood and precinct planning.

Our challenge is to protect and enhance our lifestyle while sensitively planning for anticipated growth. Through the Corporate Plan 2022‐2027, our Council has set an aspirational vision for how we want our region to look and feel 20 years from now – Our Moreton Bay. Amazing Places. Natural Spaces.

The Environment and Sustainability Policy and Planning Department sits within the Planning Directorate and takes a lead role in developing strategic environmental and sustainability policies, projects and plans to deliver healthy environments and sustainable, resilient outcomes. The Department focuses on meeting legislative requirements, community aspirations and Council priorities across three branches: Sustainability Planning, Natural Hazards Planning and Biodiversity Planning.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Planner – Biodiversity, you will:

* Take a senior role in developing strategic biodiversity planning policy and providing guidance to support a variety of land‐use planning initiatives.
* Serve as a trusted technical authority, providing leadership in biodiversity and environmental planning, with a current focus on integrating biodiversity interests into land‐use planning outcomes across the City.
* Lead and support the delivery of a range of biodiversity and environmental planning tasks to achieve strategic outcomes, eg undertaking environmental assessments for a range of internal projects, responding to submissions and/or emerging priorities, providing guidance to support a variety of land‐use planning initiatives, etc.
* Provide expert advice on legislative, policy and business requirements to support informed decision‐making.
* Work collaboratively as part of the Biodiversity Planning team to deliver aligned biodiversity planning program outcomes, including guiding and supporting other team members where required.
* Build and maintain strong relationships across diverse internal and external stakeholders to achieve strategic objectives and foster collaborative approaches.
* Where required, act as a departmental delegate and advocate for biodiversity outcomes, influencing decisions and ensuring alignment with branch positions, Council's strategic direction and compliance with legal obligations.

What we're looking for

* A blend of biodiversity expertise and land‐use planning knowledge.
* A confident and motivated self‐starter with considerable knowledge and experience across the fields of biodiversity, environmental and/or strategic planning, including relevant qualifications within those fields or similar and current C‐class driver's licence.
* Degree in land‐use and/or environmental planning, biodiversity or related discipline.
* Proven ability to deliver moderate‐to‐complex projects in time‐critical environments with competing stakeholder interests. Delivering robust outcomes, paying attention to the finer details, while still having the big picture in mind.
* Strong knowledge of federal, state and local legislation and land‐use and biodiversity planning principles.
* Experience working within a government and political context.
* Excellent communication skills to simplify complex concepts and workflows and negotiate sustainable outcomes.
* High‐level stakeholder engagement and consultation experience.
* Collaborative and adaptable professional who thrives in a fast‐paced, evolving environment.
* Passionate about biodiversity with a strategic, solutions‐focused mindset.

Benefits

* Better work‐life balance with a nine‐day fortnight (72.5 hour), plus a hybrid, flexible working environment with some work‐from‐home days.
* Negotiated salary increases locked in through our EBA – 4.5% in July 2026 and a further 4% in July 2027 (or CPI capped at 4.5%, whichever is greater).
