About Us
Southern Launch offers bespoke space mission services from two complementary spaceports in Australia.
We are a vertically integrated company providing orbital and suborbital launch, hypersonic flight, re-entries from space, and range services for advanced system testing.
Job Description
You will play a key role in shaping mission profiles, assessing flight risk, and supporting safe and successful launch and return operations. This is a hands-on technical role suited to someone who has already applied these skills in an operational, aerospace, defence, or high-integrity engineering environment.
Responsibilities
* Mission development and analysis: trajectory optimisation, mission planning, operational driver assessments, and the development and refinement of mission analysis tools.
* Flight safety: statistical modelling, failure analysis, risk modelling, and the development of flight safety software and mapping tools.
* Launch engineering: meteorological assessment, situational awareness tools, range software development, and support for launch operations.
* Launch vehicle model verification: 6-DOF modelling, aerodynamic and mass property development, and validation of end-to-end vehicle performance.
Requirements
We value the diverse experience within our team and are seeking someone who can immediately contribute with their existing expertise.
* Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical, Mechatronic, Aerospace, or equivalent).
* Demonstrated experience applying simulation, modelling, and analysis in a complex or safety-critical environment (aerospace, defence, space, robotics, etc.).
* Strong proficiency in mathematics, statistics, and flight mechanics.
* Advanced MATLAB/Simulink skills, with working knowledge of C++ or Python.
* Experience in model-based design and object-oriented development principles.
* Ability to collaborate effectively while operating independently in a fast-paced technical setting.
