Role Overview
We are seeking a detail-driven and proactive Payroll Specialist to join our finance team. This role is critical in ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely payroll operations across multiple projects and rosters throughout Australia and the wider APAC region.
The ideal candidate will have a solid background in payroll management, a passion for accuracy, and the ability to navigate complex employment structures typical of large construction and renewables projects.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Management
End-to-end processing of weekly and monthly payrolls.
Maintain accuracy in employee records, including new starters, terminations, and pay variations.
Ensure compliance with Fair Work, ATO, and Superannuation obligations.
Prepare and lodge STP, payroll tax, and superannuation filings.
Reconcile payroll journals, leave balances, and general ledger accounts.
Manage payroll queries promptly, maintaining high employee satisfaction.
Reporting & Compliance
Generate detailed payroll reports for management and project leads.
Support audits by providing accurate payroll and compliance documentation.
Maintain awareness of current legislation, awards, and enterprise agreements (including construction and renewable energy classifications).
Finance & Administration Support
Collaborate with the Finance Team to align payroll data with budgeting and forecasting cycles.
Assist with customer invoicing and project billing processes when required.
Support month-end and year-end financial reconciliations.
Skills & Experience
Minimum 3 years’ experience in payroll processing within construction, mining, or renewables industries.
Strong proficiency in Xero, with intermediate Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables).
Deep understanding of Australian payroll legislation, Fair Work provisions, and superannuation compliance.
Strong attention to detail, time management, and accuracy under tight deadlines.
Experience with multi-site or project-based rosters highly regarded.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
